So just like another recent thread, I have some bonus money I wasn't expecting. Like, "I think maybe my boss was drunk" kind of money. Or maybe I really did just work my ass off all year and he's REALLY appreciative. Or it's a mistake.

Anyhow, I'm a 1911 guy and I'm currently sporting a Colt Officers ACP for my EDC, a Kimber CDP full size safe queen and a Remington Rand '43 non collector as a future project. I bought the Kimber with the insurance money after TSA stole my Stainless II. That was a story here about 6-8 years ago. I lusted after that gun, but I don't love it the way I loved that Stainless II. I need an all steel 1911 for shooting. I don't carry full size.

Recently, I've had my eye on the Warrior in black. I love the idea of a solid modern 1911 with no Schwartz or S80 internals. My plan has always been to sell off the CDP to fund the Warrior. But my recent turn of events has lead me to look broader. I've never looked at Springfields, but I've never even held a nice one. I like the TRP.

My request to the experts is this- help me create a short list. Of the guns in this similar range, who has the basic S70 setup and where should I lean? None of these manufacturer's websites are any help here.

In no order:
Colt S70 repro (obviously)
Kimber Warrior (see above)
Springfield TRP or Loaded
Baer ?
Dan Wesson Valor or Heritage
Ed Brown ?
Sig

You can see where I'm going here. Roughly $1500 +/-. Black or stainless (I don't care for green or tan) rail would be nice but super not important, no FPS. I'd love to talk Wilson or Nighthawk, but I can't even get in the door. I'd also love to have Miller or Rogers work something up. But it wasn't that many zeros extra!

Any thoughts? Thanks!

It's easier to list guns with FPS than those without.

A mostly-inclusive list with a FPS:
Colt (excepting a few like Wiley Clapp, S70 and other repros, and of course pre-series 80)
Kimber (with a few exceptions, as well the "series I" guns)
SIG
S&W (except for the E series)
Para Ordnance
Auto Ordnance
Remington
Taurus

None of the semi-custom or Dan Wesson uses FPS.

If you can take that 1500+ and save on it a few weeks......and make it 1900 ish....you can get a new baer.  Other wise get a TRP and some ammo.

Outstanding. Thanks all! There's a fun show this weekend but I won't make it out until Sunday. Should be pretty well picked over by then.

I do like the Dan Wessons. But the S&W uses the external extractor and that kind of freaks me out.

I'm going to move into the TRP and the Baer arenas. Let's see what happens. I'm in no hurry.

The E Series extractor is awesome.  It ejects consistently and far.  I started off feeling the same way.  Then I shot one at a 10-8 Performance class.  Roughly 7 of them are in use with my friends.  Throw the factory mags away.  Buy good mags and go.  I do like the blackend stainless with the rail best.

I love my Colt Series 70. I would not trade it for anything. I have gotten a lot of use in the 3 years I've owned it. Probably have over 3000 rounds through it. It soon will have an ed brown beavertail, flat msh, cylinder and slide internals, a checkered front strap, novak sights and maybe a refinish.
