It would be slick to have a thread dedicated to what you carry your 1911 in.

Pictures of course ! I'm tired of having to leave this wonderful site and visit others to see holster selections.

If the mods approve - this would be a good tack worthy resource for other 1911 owners.

Safariland 5198 - great range holster

Old Faithful IWB - I picked this up for a Sig 226 - then ordered the replacement kydex to change over to a 1911. I think the kits purchased for a 1911 have more muzzle coverage.

I am looking for a holster now for my new Para 1911. I have a Blackhawk kydex holster backordered at my LGS, due in this weekend. But I have been looking online at different full leather IWB/OWB convertible holsters. Hope to see a few of them in this  thread...

I have six Milt Sparks VM2 holsters... two for different sized 1911's.

Recently ordered a TT Gunleather Mikes Special for a CZ75B. Looking forward to giving it a whirl.

Here's the two holsters I most often use, they are the best.

Holster #1, my Galco Speed Scabbard OWB. Secure, comfortable and stylish:

Holster #2, my Old Faithful hybrid. I didn't like the way the muzzle pulled the kydex away from the leather, so I added two more screws:

I would recommend Old Faithful/Alien Gear to anybody; great price for a superior holster. Secure, and VERY comfortable, even with a 5" steel M1911.

Love my Rock Island Tactical 5". This gun, with Wison Combats, makes a winning combination.

For OWB, I've been loving my Predator holsters from Wright Leather Works. I have their normal and Master Collection versions. I carry daily with the normal model. I also have one for my Wife's P238, and I just picked up one of their Cobra models.

For IWB, I use a Zlogonje Hybrid.

And now to totally ruin that thought...

Here is a cheap holster I decided to wet-mold myself, after washing out all the dye that oozed out. I did everything that I wasn't supposed to; wetting it through and through while wringing the dye out, using a hair dryer to speed up drying, etc. I bagged the pistol and used a chunk of plywood, mouse-pad, and some axle grease to form-fit the railed 1911 into the leather. It's ugly but it works well, and since it's an IWB holster, nobody's going to see it anyway.

Not bad for $20 and an afternoon of goofing off, learning about leather.

Does anyone make something like the VM2 in cordovan leather with a thumb break? Is retention not an issue with IWB?

Depends on the holster to gun fit. I use milt sparks summer special 2 to carry 1911's , HK's, Sig's and  glocks. I have not had a retention issue so far. Also I would add Kirkpatrick holsters to the list.

A proper non thumb break holster should have a snug but not tight fit. Easy test is to put an unloaded gun in the holster. Turn the holster upside down over a soft pillow and the gun should stay put. Turn the holster right side up and the gun should pull out  with little friction. This works if the holster is form fitted to the gun.

The holsters that passed this test that I have bought are milt sparks, galco, El Paso saddlery, and desantis for my springer xd 45. Ymmv.

Some very nice leather in this thread.  You guys that make your own, bravo.

The Desantis HRT Special I posted earlier also fits full rail guns nicely.  Here's the same holster with my STI 2011 Tac 5.0.

Some Blade-tech holsters.

WRS level 2 duty holster with duty drop offset.  Fits STI Tac 5.0 with Surefire X300 and will also fit half rail 1911s with the X300 attached.  Kinda a two for one if you've got both half and full rail guns.

Holster was ordered as a DOH with Tek-lok but I didn't like the offset and attachment so I added the stingray belt loop in its place.  It also fits the 2011 with full rail as well as the half rail 1911s with X300 attached.
