Customer came in today looking to have some work done on his 1911. Namely a grip safety change to a more modern beavertail safety.

The only issue I'm having is finding one that will fit. It's a Colt Series 70 frame that was cut many years ago to fit this safety.

Everything I have creates too big of a gap between the frame and the safety.

Anybody have any clue who made this and if I can find something to fit the ass end of a chopped frame?

That is the old King's Gun Works (out of businesss) #206 grip safety. Unfortunately, the radius cut was not the standard .250, .220, or Wilson compound radius. There is no fitting jig to use, you probably need to manually shape, or weld and recut, the frame.

Awesome!

Know of anything more modern I can use to replace it without having a stupid gap between the safety and frame?

think you are going to have to add some material back to the frame and recut

Shit.... I was hoping I wasn't going to have to weld this thing.

EGW has a .220 radius that I might recommend (they are oversized).
Many Springfields come overcut (mine included)... I bought the egw and it did not fit. If it doesn't fit mine with EVEN more filing of the tangs, it should close up a gap quite well even if it isn't the same radius as yours.

old school Kings safety ...sweet.....talk him into a retro build, square the trigger guard, fit a K frame sight you get the idea

IIRC King's used a compound radius.

Those old Kings safeties bring a lot of money here.  The MEUSOC cloners love 'em.

Chop the tangs off and solder two blocks of steel on and recut everything.  Then it'll have to be painted, park or blue won't cover the solder.
