Hi Luger guys,
This is my 1939 S/42. Perhaps you knowledgeable Luger guys can confirm what I've been told about this pistol.  From what I've been told, The S/42 marking was not used for long in 1939 and the WaA's were also somewhat uncommon for this year. Anything you can tell me about this weapon will be greatly appreciated. Numbers all match.

The S/42 code was used from serial number 4000n - 1r (sub variation 1) estimated production of 32,500 pistols. There were actually 4 subvariations of the S/42 code. The first two were proof mark changes and the last two were for Navy and Police issue. Sub variation 2 (not yours) only had an estimated production of 6,000 pistols. The WAa proof was used mostly throughout the 1939 production. The difference is in the far right test proof when they changed from the Weimar stick chicken to the Nazi eagle. Remove the side plate and see what numbers are stamped inside. If you don't know how push the muzzle on a soft hard surface before trying to rotate the locking lug. Yours looks like a very nice condition pistol, does the mag match?

Hi P08, Thank you for all the info. The mag doesn't match but the pistol is very nice with a nice bore. I'll look inside the sideplate and report back.

So your serial number part that you blanked out is 24 huh. Please post a pic of the mag bottom I'm always looking to match one up. If you post a pic of your serial I'll look to see if I have it.

The number inside the side plate is always one digit higher than the first two digits of the serial number. But this is only true of some Mauser made pistols I think from 1938 thru end of production in 42.
