Never owned one, but have always wanted one. They seem to be nicely made little guns, IMO.

I have a Browning BDA (same gun) and it is a very nice and reliable .380 ACP.

I've got one of the old Pietro Beretta  model 84 in 7.65 browning

It has the wooden grips on it like this one

I like it a lot.

But then again I'm a Beretta fan

Always considered these to be excellent handguns, both the Beretta and the FN/Browning enclosed slide version.

This is what I always hear, don't know what your intended purpose is going to be. 380 is a very marginal round for self defense and there are many 9mm options out there in about the same size package.

I have one, and I love it. I think it's a classy pistol, and $300. seems like a decent price. That said, I think it's a little outdated from the standpoint of size/weight vs. caliber. If you do choose to carry it, it should serve you well. Mine has been absolutely dependable.

I purchased an 84FS new a few years ago.  It was very reliable and concealable.  But I sold it because I found the blowback recoil to be sharper than I wanted.  (This was the same reason I got rid of a Walther PPK/S.)  But like all Berettas, it's very well made and magazine are readily available.

My wife has a  Beretta 84FS.  It's a beautiful pistol and shoots very well.

FWIW, I was in a gunstore last week and saw LNIB 84's selling for $550.00 or thereabouts.

So for $300.00 I say go for it.

I have had several of the double-stack ones, in .32 and .380 with de-cocker and without.  The real find for a shooter is the single-stack version, feels much better.

My main carry gun is a 84FS 13+1, I love my gun, because it is so reliable and it has a manual safety. I had Trijicon NS installed on it. You can get many reliable 9mm  or lager calibers the same size but none having a manual safety. The Glock, S&W MP, XD, SIGs all great reliable handguns but no manual safety on them in the same size category. As far as being a marginal round, it is the same diameter of a 9mm and only 2mm less in case length. With modern HP +P is has just about the same penetration as the 9mm +P round has.

Check the balistics. 6-9" vs. 12-14"(ETA - #'s from memory of various tests, check in the ammo forum, no .380's meet minimum standards. Don't get me wrong, I have a .380 and it serves a purpose but it doesn't compare to the 9mm, especially the 124's and 147's)

Good reasoning.  The .38 special case is way longer than 9mm, so I guess it must be like a 9mm Magnum, right?

Quality handgun. That said, in today's market it is awfully big and heavy for a .380. It compares pretty well with a Cz-82.

I have an 84BB, and it is a great gun. A .380 isn't what I carry for defense, but the 84 has its' purposes.
