Thinking of picking up a revolver in .22lr

What would you recommend?

I'm satisfied with my Ruger LCR .22.

S&W 617 for a shooter. Great trigger , various barrel lengths available . Not cheap but buy once and you have a great shooter for life

If you want a classic search out a old model 17 ( but bring a fat wallet)

Pretty much any other new double action isn't worth having because the triggers/actions are nasty in comparison to the S&W

The Ruger single actions are good shooters with decent triggers and they are lots cheaper but they are slow to load and agony to unload.
I know lots of guys who own them at my club but very few shot them on a regular basis .

If you can live with a short gun the Ruger LCR (double action only ) is a great gun with a good trigger.

I prefer the j frame Smith .22s.  Model 34, 35, and 63s are all great guns; accurate and fun.  Certainly not cheap, but life is too short for junky or boring guns.

Colt Diamondback, if you can afford it.

That is a beautiful revolver.  I bet it's like shooting a BB gun.

4" SW 617... mine was more accurate than my 4" Diamondback... both are gone now

S&W 617.  The barrel length is up to you for your use.  I had a 6" and loved it.

S&W 617.  Pretty expensive though and can be somewhat difficult to find.

Had the Ruger Hunter, but as posted above it was a pain in the ass to reload and the sights where not the greatest.  At least not for my eyes anyway.  YMMV. It was rather nice to have the ability to switch between 22LR to 22 WMR though.  I always felt that it would of been a lot better if Ruger would of outfitted it with a fiber optic front sight as it does with the Single 10/9 series of revolvers.

H&R 999 I really want a 4in. I have a LCR 22 but haven't shot it yet.

I've got a S&W K22 and a Ruger SP-101.   I highly recommend both of them.

I have a few rimfire revolvers that I can directly compare  and have shot a whole lot more from friends and acquaintances. My recommendation for a reasonably priced rimfire revolver is a S&W K-22 or 617.

If you want to spend a little more, you can get a Colt OMM or a Korth but the S&W K-22 will do the same job, the Korth is just a little nicer and has the double action roller on top of the trigger that gives it a better D/A characteristic. Anyway, with either of the three you  definitely can't blame the gun for any misses...

I did not know the SP-101 came in 22lr.  The Ruger site kind of hides it because it's not listed in the rimfire section. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

S&W Model 617 but pricey.  Ruger SP-101 8 shot revolver is nice also.

It's a good, solid little revolver, lots of fun to shoot and a great trainer for a DA or DAO self defense pistol or revolver.  Mine is the older 6 shot model, the newer models are 8 shot.  The DA trigger may be rough out of the box, but it will smooth up with use.  It's a revolver you'll never want to get rid of.  All the same things can be said of the K22.

Any K-frame .22, of which I am partial to the Model 18.

A lot of K22 fans in here, and I agree they are great.  For me though the j frame 22 is superior.  The K frame guns are just a bit too heavy for a 22.  The j 22 is lighter and handier.  The model 35, which is the 6 in target version is supremely accurate.

Depends on if you want a single action or double action.  Single action there's only one choice for the best you can buy and that's a Ruger Single Six.  Absolutely fantastic guns.  I LOVE mine and its a beautiful gun.  Double action there are several options available as you can see here, I'm looking forward to getting one of the new 10 shot .22LR GP100's once they are finally released.

Excuse me but the best rimfire single action revolver is without any doubt the Freedom Arms Model 83!

617
any K frame 22
Diamondback "shooter condition"
Ruger Single-Six or Single-Ten (The loading/unloading is not an issue. Slower saves ammo and money. Also easier to clean)

Any of those will give you years of fun with proper maint.

I'd forgotten about that. I've got one NIB somewhere in the safe. I think I'll probably give it to my son to get the grandkids initiated.

Either of these work for me;
Colt Officers Model and Smith & Wesson K-22.  Both very accurate, it's a tossup as to which can out shoot the other.

What do you want to do with it exactly?  For my usage, which is primarily indoor target shooting, I like my 6" S&W 617 10-shot a lot.

I had a 8-3/8" S&W 617 10-shot for a while but it was just too long and heavy; I had a S&W 18 4" for a while, it just did not work for me.

Usual cliches apply, what works for the rest of us may not work for you, try several out and see what fits your hands, etc, etc.

I am holding out for the rumored Ruger GP100 in .22lr to come out.

I will have to get one in stainless.

I can tell you which one to avoid... Don't waste your time with a Taurus, I don't know how you fuck up making a .22 revolver but they managed. It was the only DA option other than the ridiculously priced S&Ws at the time. Lesson learned.

Anyway I sold that bullshit and bought a single six and have never looked back. A single ten is on my short list.
