No, I'm not looking to trade . We currently own a Glock 19, and my wife is fine with the weight, but the grip is too large. If she orients the gun so that it is in line with her forearm, then her fingers don't get a good enough purchase for her to feel secure in her grasp of it.
Can anyone recommend a 9mm with a slimmer grip? She is used to the striker fired gun with no manual safety, so that would be the best, but we're open to other choices, especially a DA/SA. Thanks! |

M&P Shields are fairly thin, I don't own one but have handled one.

View Quote Sig P239 You can find less expensive options and lighter options, but not many better in terms of shooting....at least for DA/SA 9mm with a slim grip and no manual safety. I suppose I am biased since I like a DA/SA with a decocker. |

Kahr CW9 is similar is size to the G19 and thinner. Walther PPS is another idea with a nicer trigger than the Kahr. The Shield would be my first choice to look at though. David

I have a Xdm 9mm 3.8 Compact that my wife handles very well and loves to shoot. It's a great gun and I for one love the ergonomics of it.

SIG P239 or a CZ 75 Compact.
My wife hates every gun i've brought home until I brought a CZ 75 home. I heard her messing around with it and when I came back in the room she told me to go buy her one. Shes never said that in 9 years and dozens of guns |

Lately I've been running with an M&P 9C and I must say I'm impressed.

I'm normally not a fan of pistols designed and/or marketed for women, nor am I a fan of safeties, but EAA's new Pavona looks promising, and I'd like to pick up one myself. The non-glitter version is cheaper.

S&W Shield, Kahr CW9, Beretta Nano, Walther PPS, Bersa BP9
The trigger on the Bp9 is supposed to be very nice. Full length grip, too. |

Steyr S9A1
Striker fired, slimmer grip than the G while having the same grip angle. Very underrated. |
|
Walther PPS
Or another thought, you didn't mention if you have a Gen 3 or Gen 4 Glock 19. If you have a Gen 3, I'd let her try a Gen 4 with no backstrap on it. |

The SIG SP2022 has 3 different grip modules of varying thickness as well as 2 different triggers, standard and short reach. With all the different combinations, there's a combination that will fit most people. Unless of course you have hands like Andre the Giant. For the shortest reach and slimmest grip, I'd choose the small grip module and short trigger.

The VP9 sounds like something to look and compare to the 2022, either way you're getting a good shooter.

In single Stack PPS or Sheild
In Double Stack PPQ is hard to beat same rough size as G19. Very easy to hold |

Diamondback has a new full sized handgun which is supposed to be very thin for a double stack 9mm.

That loaded chamber indicator is terrible. |

I can say that price wise they aren't even close. You can pick up a 2022 for under $400. OP I would look at the Shields, the safety on the Shield has an extremely strong detent and stays put. Leave the safety on off and forget about it. |

Take her to a large gun show, and let her handle what is available.
Recommendations over the internet are not going to solve the issue for somebody who has difficulty with a Glock 19. |

SIG P320 with a small grip module. You'll probably have to ask your LGS order it.

The PPS isn't always the answer to the female in question.
Some are so recoil sensitive that the PPS is too much. It's better to try a heavier pistol in 9mm at that point if the PPS recoils too much for her to shoot well and feel comfortable with it. I've been involved with Women On Target events for a few years now and have seen hundreds of women shoot pistols and taught a few along the way. I've had excellent success with the CZ Compact with VZ grips and have seen promise with a recently acquired S&W Model 19-2. A CZ P-01 with slimmer grips like VZs or possibly the stock rubber grips, most women seem to like them and they fit a lot of different hands. |

i actually just bought my wife an m&p shield a few months back for an EDC for her. i dont know how your wife would react to the m&p's grip angle however. it is slightly different from the glocks. however, my opinion of her new piece is slightly different from hers. i have paws much larger then hers, so im not a huge fan of the slim profile, but its not my sidearm. if she believes in accuracy through volume of fire, then the shield is definitely lacking in that department. however, on the other hand, it is an accurate pistol for its purpose. its not a match gun, but at 7 yards it groups slightly left and less then three inches. from my wife's perspective, it is amazing. as with a lot of shooters, her first pistol was a full sized handgun. with her five foot two (and a quarter, added for the authors personal and marital safety) stature the shield fits comfortably on her person, instead of being in the bag, or the car, or the safe, or the other purse, or the ........ it works with the crossbreed holster she bought nicely. she cant wear skin tight jeans then, but she also got a flash bang holster which she can review herself. however, she doesn't complain about it so that usually means its a hit.

M&P Shield but have you considered a grip reduction on the G19 frame?

My wife loves the Shield and the sig 938. Both are pretty small but work great for her. I think the XDs would be worth looking at too.

Highly recommend FNH's FNS-9.
Very underrated high quality firearm. |
