Hey guys,

Looking for a new EDC. I'm a fan of 1911 triggers but I want something cheaper to feed with higher capacity. I have a glock 26 and 19 but I just flat out don't like how they shoot. I'm a fan of appendix carry and I'm looking for something I can carry year round.

Saw a good deal on an M11 here: http://shop.tropgun.com/servlet/-strse-8467/SIG%2CSAUER%2CM11-dsh-A1%2CSEMI-dsh-AUTOMATIC%2CM11A1/Detail

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

For appendix carry, if you like the SIG, go with the p224. It took me a while to find a good holster for it but I got the low rider holster from www.rmholster.com

The p224 is between the Glock 26 and the Glock 19 in  size.  I go back and forth between SIGs and Glocks for my carry guns. I like them both for different reasons.

Edit:
For what it is worth, if you are a fan of the 1911 trigger, you probably will not like the SIG DA/SA trigger. I actually like it, and the transition doesn't bother me, but it pretty far way from a 1911 SA trigger. You will need to practice, mucho.

The M11, or it's predecessor the 228, is a quality gun.  It was my first Sig and the one I put the most rounds (several thousand) through with no issues.  Not sure how it will work out for your intended purpose.  The 224 is somewhat smaller but I haven't been able to find a pinky finger extension for it, therefore the grip doesn't fit my hand well.  Although better than the 229 the 228 is still a little heavy for ccw IMO.  I find the M&P9 compact more comfortable for long periods of cc.

The M11 is just a P229 marketed to people that think that they're getting something "real operators" are using. It is NOT a P228.

I've never thought appendix was a good idea, so I don't have experience with it. But I'd bet the P229 is a bit big for appendix, while perfect for regular IWB. I EDC a P229 IWB at 4:30-5:00. SIG guru Bruce Gray seems to think the P224 is under sprung. Take that as you will. Maybe look at the P239, but it's single stack.

If you're looking for a 1911 style SA, you're going to want to look at (can't believe I'm going to say this) the P238 and P938. But you're back to limited capacity.

Maybe look at the S&W M&P9c. But you'll want to take a Apex or similar trigger mod into the price.  I think it will suit your carry preference well.

The M11a1 is a true SIG228 as per government contract. Get the Short trigger and the SRT kit. Buy one and you will never regret it.

No, it's not. The M11 is/was a P228 (folded carbon steel slide). The M11-A1 is a stainless slide (P229). They put some military markings on it, but it is not a military issued pistol; it is a civilian version. That's not to say it's not a perfectly fine pistol.  I own 2 P229s and a P228 myself. Assuming that's indeed NIB, it's a pretty good price. Just don't fool yourself thinking you are owning a military pistol (which I've never understood some people's obsession with).

Again, I can't imagine appendix carrying a P229, but like I said I don't carry appendix at all.

While not a true m11, the m11A1 does come with the SrT, atleast the couple I have looked at had them.

I prefer the 228. I would rather buy a 228, send it off for an SRT, action work and night sights over an m11A1. They just balance better.

ETA, I think most anything with a hammer is going to be uncomfortable to AIWB with.

I'd save your money, buy an RCS vanguard 2 and try it out with your Glocks for a few weeks.

I've actually been running a vg2 with my blocks since I got them.  I just don't enjoy the trigger at all. Tough coming from a 1911. I've even contemplated sending the guns to SAI for their tier 1 trigger. Sig is about 30 mins away from where I live though.

To clarify a couple of things. The M11-A1 is a essentially a p229 slide with a p228 frame. It has night sights and the SRT trigger standard. It is an excellent handgun. Size is similar to a Glock 19.

Regarding the ability to comfortably carry AIWB a gun with a hammer, I often carry the p224 midline (12 o'clock) and it does just fine and conceals very well.  With the 224 you can carry a p229 or 226 magazine as a reload, I carry a 20 round 226 magazine for my reload when I carry it.  AIWB has always been the most forgiving of heavier guns for me, so the increased weight of the SIG over my Glocks isn't noticed when carried in that position.

To the OP, only 1911s have 1911 triggers, you will never get anything else like that. Get past the crutch of the 1911 trigger and just practice a lot with other stuff. Don't try to make your Glock trigger super light. In my mind SAI "tier 1" trigger + VG2 + appendix carry = disaster waiting to happen.

If the trigger is the only thing bothering you on the Glock then my best suggestion would be to dry fire twice a day every day, and shoot at least once a month, hopefully way more than that if possible.

And because I feel like the thread needs moar picz.

Maybe I would be better off with a usp compact carried condition 1?

I'm not a huge fan of guns with hammers, but if I was, the Sig 228/M11 would be my fave. I was briefly issued one on active duty, and i about cried when I had to give it back and go back to the M9.

I think capacity is not a huge issue for ccw as many got along just fine ( and still do ) with snub wheel guns. If you like 1911's a sig 938 would fit the bill. I steered a friend ( old time 1911 and browning high power guy) to a 938 and he finds it a great carry gun and has fed it jhp ball and lead reloads with 100% reliability

More and more I think I need to stick with what I'm good with and I know works for me...

Good price for a 229.  Night sites and three mags for $750 is worth considering.

I have a 1991 edition of the 228.  Great gun, accurate, reliable.  A tad bulky for CCW use, but doable.  I carry it from time to time.

As someone who has 1911's, Glocks and a M11-A1, the SIG is a great gun for me.
Stupid accurate, points very naturally for me...like my 1911s.
The DA first trigger pull is something Ive been working on and getting better with.
The size makes it easy to carry concealed.
