So I have a gentleman trying to trade me a (1976?) browning HP C series that he says is unfired. It has fixed sights and a spur hammer. He says it has its white tag, pouch ,and manual. He's giving it a value around $1200...does this seem right? I do not know much about these.

It looks just like this one

Unless you are a desperate collector, bad value.

Spend $800 +/- on a new one with better sights and ambi long safety.  And probably a better trigger pull.

Agreed. Those C series guns are coming up in value with a lot of collectors snatching up the T series guns. That being said I think 1k would be a fair price but if I bought a never fired C series I would have a hard time firing it.

You are not going to be flipping it on the plus side anytime soon at that price.

Everyone  thinks their ______ is worth way more than your ______.

Cash value is not necessarily the same as trade value.

Note that the gun in the auction you linked actually sold for $855.
