Are the Craig Spegel grips worth it? My wife got me a Mk. III for Christmas, and I want to put some nice cocobolo grips on it. The two that I have seen are the Herretts (in stock at Brownells) and Craig Spegel (Craig is not accepting orders until he is caught up on all existing orders). I have handled a BHP with the Spegel grips, and was impressed, and I also like the fact that the Spegels are fully checkered, while the Herretts lack checkering on the backstrap area of the grip. What say the hive; are the Spegels worth the wait and extra money?

Yes, yes they are. I am small framed but use a large glove and they fit my hands perfectly.

I have a set on a BHP 40 that had some work done by Novak, and they are very nice.  I'm also liking a set of G10 (?) gray grips I picked up at a local show and put onto a C series.  Hogue also offers a set of wood grips that are not checkered at all, and I like them, but they don't add a lot to the grip, just make it look really nice.

Best thing you can do is call Spegel like right now. He put me on a waiting list around 5 months ago and got a call from him Dec 23rd. He said he's calling people now, you might get lucky.

Those are actually Delrin Spegel's

I do have two pairs of the Uncle Mikes rubber copies. And yes they have a great feel.

I've used them for over 25yrs on my Hi-Powers. Top is Coco Bolo. Bottom is Delrin. Both by Spegel. Have others but no current pictures. They fit my medium sized hands like a glove!

I called yesterday about getting on his list for a set of boot grips for a new 686, and asked about his BHP grips.
And he had some BHP finished and ready to go!
Bought a pair right then.
Now the waiting part.
Waiting for the mail to deliver my money order to him, and waiting for the grips to come to me...

Your kingwood grips look great.  I have a set of cocobolo inbound.  And can't wait.
Mr. Spegel could make particle board look good.  His grips are to be used and treasured..

Absolutely worth it!  I got in just before he stopped taking orders and I have two jealous friends who want a pair now.
