Currently there is a discussion in the Handguns general discussion area about the life span of service pistols.

One gent has posted that aluminum framed pistols have a service life of 20,000 rounds.
That seems to me to be a pretty big generalization.

So a $900+ Sig is only good for 20K rounds?  Really?

Anyone here have a high round count CZ with an alloy frame?

Any real data on this?

My P01 only has 6k thru it, and about 200 of those were +P or that hot Israeli tracer ammo.  Still a tight gun.

Edited post:

P01 did 15,000 of +P for the NSN

I would think that more slide rail to frame rail contact would create a more long lived firearm.

I have 8K through my P-01 (no +P though) and I know that isn't a ton of rounds but it is still just a solid as the day I bought it.

There's no real or reliable to say how long an aluminum framed handgun will last. But  I think it's fair to say, most people will never shoot their particular gun enough to wear out a frame, slide, or barrel.

Maybe only 20,000 rounds is some kind of average. But simply as an example. Ben Stoeger, a competition shooter. He used to shoot Beretta all the time. He had a gun(s) that went over 100,000 rounds before it either broke or he simply retired the gun. I've seen other shooters go to and above 60,000 rounds on a Beretta frame.
