There have been people who have chopped their grip down to get the compact grip with a 4" or even a 4.5" slide. All of the virtues of a longer slide with the concealability of a compact grip.  I read somewhere they reason Springfield Armory chopped the slide down to 3.8" has something to do with meeting the requirements of some shooting sport, that would make sense. And maybe they would figure 3.8" is long enough to satisfy most people, they might be right. But it isn't my preference and I'm not alone.
