In the full sized mags you can fit
15 9mm in the 10rnd 40/357 mags 17 9mm in the 12rnd 40/357 mags 13 9mm in the 9rnd 40 sub mag here is picture I did that lets people see how to properly adjust the mags to get them to woork if they need it. By the way only about 2 out of every 100 mags really need any adjusting ![]() |

Great info!!!! Thanks very much!!!!!!!!!
Edited to add, just went out and bought a XD40 subcompact mag today. Brought it home and filled her up, 13 rounds with no problem. They were riding high, but with a few taps on the lips with my rubber mallet, the round went right into place, and seemed to work well. 1st chance I get to take to the range I will report back. Thanks again!! |

I just picked up a copy of Shooting Times and on the back is a picture of the new Springfield XD-Xtension. It is a standard full size magazine with the XD-Xtension sleeve that "effectively extends the grip and fills your hand like a full size frame."
The sleeve looks identical to the grip, and means 17 rounds of 9mm in the full size .40 mag, but still with the compact slide. That is if you can just by the sleeve. Springfield is giving the extra magazine w/ the sleeve away with any new XD purchase. Interesting!! |

Here is a picture from over a year ago of the ones I made. I used silver so you could see it better in the pictures. Of course though this was before the sub 40 mags were available so this was the only way to get more cpacity.

Has anyone contacted Springfield to see if the "high cap mag with sleeve" is available for purchase, without purchasing another XD Compact?
I would like to have a couple. |

How much is the new grip extention going to cost?
I have been thinking about getting a sub-compact xd9 for awhile now. Can't decide if I want the compact or a 4''. Or in 9mm or .40. Just read the last post. The compacts are shipping with the sleeve and an extra mag now? |

I have not contacted Springfield about cost/availability. The thing (sleeve) cant be much, it is simple piece of slip on plastic. Then, of course, you will have the cost of the full zize mag.
I did buy and "adjust" some .40 mags for my 9mm, and they work perfectly. I put the Pierce extension on mine, no addtional cap, just the spot for the finger. Paid $29.95 for the mag at Gander Mtn. |

How hard is the adjustment to make?
With the adjustment, sleeve and .40 mag it would hold 17+1 correct? |

SickMAK90 A pair of needle nosed pliers is all thats needed. ANd 17 plus 1 is correct.

Small hammer and flat surface worked for me...
As noted above 13 +1 in the .40 sub magazine. |

Are you just having to bend the lips inward?

More I see stuff like this the more I want a 9mm instead of a .40.
I am going to end up with 2 XD's I think. A SC and a 5''. I may get a .40 or a .357 sig in the 5'' |

Question on this topic for a newb... So I see if I can understand this...
The XD9 can take the XD40 mags no problem? And 15 rounds of 9mm can fit in a 10 round 40 magazine? I'm talking full size, not the compact. |

That is correct. |

Do you always have to customize the fullsize xd40 mags to fit 15 9mm or will some have no problems handling it?

I tried this trick with the full size .40 mags and was only able to stuff 14 rounds of 9mm in it. Is there a technique to make them fit or something?

Update and further info for anyone looking to do this with ProMag Magazines.
Only 13 9mm will fit into the Promage .40 mags. Go with genuine Springfield Armory Mags. |
