If that's the aluminum frame it's a pain in the ass w/ anything but very light loads.

I'm used to shooting Airweights and J and K magnum snubs. With the grip I'm using it'll be a 20oz gun. Should be fiine.

Im much more likely to carry this.  The weight doesn't bother me, my cadence with 357 is way better, my groups tend to be tighter. and my reloads are much cleaner.

I drop from 7 to 6, which is the biggest downside to me, but I don't lose sleep over it

they both fit nicely in the same holster

You need a shoulder holster so you can carry the 386 as back up

Nothing wrong with the 66

Most of my reloads were sticking on the way in. Slowed me way down and a speed loader even pulled one out. I saw it, then half way through the cylinder I had the click, reflexively started to reload, then remembered I had an empty chamber..

Felt pretty good besides that. I had a couple of low shots on stage three as well. Last time I shot this gun I was using heavier bullets and never adjusted back...dummy.

I’ve been having the wheelgun itch lately so I finally bought a decent holster to carry my S&W Model 29. It’s a Mitch Rosen from Dillon Precision. I’ve got a lot of .44 Spl ammo so that’s what I’ll use. 200gr LSWCHP Federal in the gun. 200gr SWC Remington for the reloads.Attachment Attached File

Finally took a photo of my growing family of revolvers.

Top row from left, with barrel length and cartridge as marked on barrel:
30-1 3” 32 S.&W. Long
317-3 3” 22 Long Rifle
638-8 1.875” 38 S&W SPL +P

Second row from left:
Diamondback 4” 38 SPECIAL CTG.
51-1 3 1/2” marked 22 M.R.F. CTG. but I also have the second, original 22lr cylinder. Note the square butt.
60 3” S.&W. 357 MAGNUM

Bottom row from left:
37 3” Airweight 38 SPL CTG. This revolver was in unfired, new in the box condition until I started shooting it.
66-1 4” S.&W. 357 MAGNUM This one is a KHP example.
10-8 4” 38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG. This one is a police trade in and has a badge or inventory poorly etched in the bottom of the grip frame near the serial number.

I always get a kick out different designations for the same cartridge and especially of Colt avoiding mentioning S&W in the cartridge designation and S&W taking every advantage of stamping another S.&W. On the gun.

Same reason why British New Services, Triple Locks, & Hand Ejectors were marked .455 Eley - neither Colt nor S&W wanted to put Webley down as the name of the cartridge they were chambered for.  Same as Marlin .44-40 lever actions, etc, etc.

Nice collection - you need a Dan Wesson in there...

Thanks man. I don't mind if they're a little wide. Round and smooth helps them to conceal.

They'll definitely be worth looking at if I need a set of grips and can't find ahrends.

I must have missed when you swapped the cylinder release out for an older style.  I was confused when looking at that picture, trying to figure out which gun was which (and confused about a shrouded .38 ejector rod, as I thought they were all exposed), until I looked at another picture of yours further up with that older latch.

They handle recoil pretty well too. They're just wide enough on the back.

The front sight is a meprolight and the rear is a c&s u notch. Great sight picture. The zero is perfect for my loads and usable with everything else except 125s@1400fps where they shoot too low.

Just wanted to follow up on recoil.

I went out shooting on a humid hot day and they were very slippery when wet.

I plan to refinish them.  Not a big deal as they have a little overhang that I can clean up and I might try to slightly adjust the profile

18-2 in good shape. Little bit of holster wear on the bbl but no other issues. Paid plenty for it but it's been on the want list for a long time and I've found that with older Smiths, when you find one you want, buy it!Attachment Attached File
