Lately I've developed a fetish for revolvers again. I used to have several a few years ago, but then slowly sold them off when it was time to buy my house. Since then, I've been wanting to get back into revolvers but just never had the spare funds or when I did someone else would beat me to a smoking deal

While browsing Armslist yesterday saw an ad for a S&W Model 64-6 DOA with Hogue wraparound grips, 100 rounds of Speer +P 38 special, around 40 rounds of assorted reloads, Fobus holster, some snake shot, and some practice caps for $275. I emailed the guy, talked back and forth some to work out logistics and meet up today.

Gentleman I got it from had it for roughly 5 years, having purchased somewhere as a police turn in. I would love to figure out a way to find out which department. He was also a former gunsmith and advised me had polished all the internals, and let me pull the trigger a few times to make sure I was happy with it

For $275 I am very happy to add this to my collection. I did screw up one part of the Hogue grips taking them off, knocked the top flap loose but I was already planning on looking for a different set of grips. Just mad at myself for not being more careful, cause the Hogue grips are comfortable.

I did take it home and lightly polish her with some mother's. Other than that, I'm ready to take her to the range next chance I get

Jealous... I have a soft spot for K-frame smiths, especially the 64/67.

That's a great price for a 64 in that condition.  I'm my area that would be $350+

Normally that is what they run in my area as well, the guy just wanted to have a quick sale & I was Johnny on the spot!  He also had reloading supplies for 38 Special, I just didn't have the extra funds to start getting into that as well

Oh my goodness. That is a steal.  You get a bobbed hammer to boot?  That's like saving money on a gunsmith and already getting a good price.  WOW.

It's beautiful.  And I'd be super excited if I was you.  I vowed to only shoot my revolvers DA, so to me the bobbed hammer is a bonus.

I'm definitely glad I got it. Thankfully I was the first guy to message him so I got first dibs. He was a real stand up dude, considering I originally had to change the meet time but he held it for me

Working on hopefully getting some range time in this weekend

You did very well, indeed.  There are deals out there if one is patient and has cash.

I agree, but sometimes can get lucky with a trade offer. I just traded a built 300 Blackout rifle for a S&W 686-4 and received $200 from the deal as well

Just a small brag, here's my 66-3. The owner didn't take care of it at all! RUST, RUST,RUST!!
He kept it in a nylon holster under his pu seat, got wet and after so long , it rusted!! The cylinder was the worst. I'll be looking to replace it.
In the mean time I had it buffed and then I waxed it.

Picture doesn't make it look too bad. Looks like it cleaned up nicely, how much did you give for it if I may ask

I have one just like yours that I purchased about the same time.  I really liked the round butt but replaced the hogue grips with Pachmayr Compac.  In retrospect that might have been a mistake.  The hogue grips were the only finger grip style grips that ever fit my fingers.  A K-frame in the low pressure .38 special should last forever. Mine is particularly fond of 158 gr SWC cast bullets and 5.0 gr Unique.

I picked up two the S&W 64 4" DAO revolvers Bud's was offering recently.  They apparently had both 64-5 and 64-6 versions, but both of mine were 64-5s.  One is a basic 64 with a DAO hammer, the other is a NY-1 with the matte finish and NY-1 marking.  Both are in very good shape and have a lot of life left in them.  I expect to be able to leave them to my kids.  I was glad I got the 64-5s since they have the "traditional" S&W look, forged hammer and trigger, firing pin on the hammer.

Those guns are about the perfect size for regular carry.
My LGS guy talked me into a 65-5 3" round butt back in the early 90's. I told him I already had a 357, and didn't need another one. Boy I'm glad I am a very weak willed gun buyer, because it's one of my favorites. In fact, everyone that shoots it wants to buy it.
