I've got 2 right now. First up is a S&W M649. It is an early .357 version. Has MIM parts but no lock. I've never had a single problem with it and it shoots very well. I carried it for a few years until buying my second snubbie, pictured below. It is currently on long term loan to my mother for her CCW gun. She bought a Ruger LCP and couldn't rack the slide, so I traded her the LCP for this M649. I lightly worked the action on the M649 and she can work the DA trigger pretty well. It is a handful with full house .357 loads but they are very accurate. .38 ammo is a pussycat and also very accurate.

My second snubbie is my Ruger SP101. It started out as having a spurred hammer, which I bobbed when I got it caught on some clothes when drawing one time. I also worked the action on this one and it is very good. A little heavier than the M649 and also shoots very well. The SP101 replaced the M649 in my carry rotation and worked for several years till I started carrying my G26 again.

While I love my snubbies, they aren't practical for me for carry anymore. The PD I work for only allows me to carry and qualify with 1 backup/off duty gun in addition to 1 duty gun. Due to budget cuts, we are subject to callout 24/7 if the on duty Officer needs help. Because I really don't want to run into an active shooter situation with just a 5 shot snubbie, I'm now carrying an auto for ease of use and ease of reloading. If all I was worried about was self defense, I'd still be carrying my snubbies. However, with the possibility of having to go on the offensive with just what I have on me, I opted for an auto. Sad, but necessary.

5 shots at 25 yards.  Single action though.  It was a long time ago and I was basically just testing it for accuracy, benched.

Some folks balk at me when I mention that I can shoot 4-5" offhand groups with my snubs with some regularity at 20-25 yards. The guns can shoot.

That was done with that Taurus 617 up there. 20yds. With 38spl, 158gr, fmj.

I get shit from people too when I claim to be able to shoot a snubbie like that, but it's fun and satisfying to prove to them that I can.

I just traded into a SS Speed Six,last Sunday.
It looks like new ! I had a new one back about '81,in .38 Spl.
This is a .357, i never forgot how good these wheel guns felt !
Best Ruger grip frame,to me.

Had a brand new JIT molded holster for it in my holster bin too.

I just realized after looking at the pictures of your Speed Six,that mine is a pre- warning model. Series 154. Wonder when it was made?

5- shot Airweight .44spl on an L-frame

I seldom carry it but for a quick run to the store with a speed strip in my pocket it tucks in the waistband great.

200gr Corbon in there might get their attention.

I thought it was a .44.  I had never seen one from S&W.

Big matt, that last one is a K frame, eh?   And those are VZ grips, eh?  How do you like them?  Is that a.....  64 2"?????

Good eye. 64-2 2" with VZ Tactical Diamonds in Black Cherry. They have an aggressive texture that is easy to grip, but won't hurt your hand after a long range session. I don't normally carry the 64, but have on occasion. If I carried it more often I think I would prefer the smoother 320s. This is my first revolver with VZ's, but now it is my third gun equipped with VZ Grips.

You guys make me envious on the way you guys can shoot your snubbies!  I'm all over the place when I try to shoot my S&W Model 638 Airweight.  At maybe 7 yards I can stay in a 5 inch diameter plate if I'm lucky.  I am just not used to the gun's sights.

I've heard it said they're thin, but they don't really look it from the pics....  What do you think?  Maybe compared to some target grips.  But probably not moreso than the hogues.

Well since I'm one of the ones that posted groups I have to put your mind at ease.  That was from the bench single action.  Supported.  When shooting double action, standing, I probably couldn't do that at 5 yards.

Here's my last range session with the snubby at 7 yards, double action standing.  Sounds like you're better than this already.  Which to me seems acceptable for a self defense scenario.  I need to get better though:
