You know how it goes.

Local guy listed a Smith snubbie.

Noticed it had a flat latch.

Some hooplehead had refin'ed it with Cerakote.

Then someone tried removing it and gave up.

I learned to polish and spent about 8 hours taking it back to the nickle (without removing the nickle...that's a real trick).

Seller says he'll give me the original stocks, too.

How do you know that you are looking at Nickel and not bare, unfinished steel?

It's a different color & shows a layer if it's polished through. Easy to tell.

I know because my gunsmith coached me daily and threatened to beat me with a rubber hose if I got too aggressive with the wheel.

Finish looks to be in good shape and is real flashy all buffed up-Good Job!

Why in blazes would anyone coat a gun that has good finish? If it was some rusty pitted mess go ahead but not that gun , never.

I will bet the coating was messing up the fit of some of the parts and messing up the operation of the gun also.

Hopefully you got a deal and a half on a coated revolver that had unknown finish condition under a coating .

Nice save!

Now THAT is a beautiful wheelgun. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Good restoration job, Sir.

If it is original nickel, it might have an "N" somewhere on the grip frame under the grips.   And maybe on the barrel under the ejector rod.   Looks good.  The guy probably didnt like the shiny finish.
