What a GREAT revolver.  Very impressed with the feel, accuracy, trigger pull, recoil.  Great to see a USA firearm manufacturer still making such a quality product.
Debated on the 3" or 4"......made the right choice.

I love my 4" stainless GP100. I actually prefer the DA pull on it to my K or L frame S&Ws.

I much prefer that grip also.  That new Hogue (?) with the finger grooves is much too bulky for me.  I would much rather have the old slick, insert style.

4".

You sure did.  4" is great...5" might be even more perfiect.  I'll leave that up to you to discover.  Once I bought my used 4" blue, I fell in love with it.  It might not ever be as nice as my 19-3, it is a workhorse, and is so soft-shooting (even with 357) that I will never part with it.  This is why people will always recommend a GP100 in the revolver thread for someone looking for their first 357/38.

Did you get the blue or SS?

PS nice to see another CO member

Couple of ounces depending on barrel length.  Balance. The way the lines flow.

full lugs add weight cut recoil muzzle flip ect
MY OPINON FOLLOWS
but ruin the balance making the gun point low  the python has a hull lug so do most of the 686

If you want a lighter gun for daily or long term carry half lug is better if you plan on doing faster quick draw or match shooting a half lug is better full lugs are for bullseye and target shooting.

a full lug on a 3" barrel is the full retard of the revolver world

YUP THAT IS A NEAR PERFECT CCW 357 WITH AN EXTRA USELESS 3-4 OZ OF WEIGHT ON THE NOSE.  IT'S NOT EVEN ENOUGH TO REDUCE MUZZLE FLIP ON DECENT 357 SD LOADS IT IS JUST WEIGHT. BUT NICE GUNS

Hey SD307,  being sarcastic is usually a form of venting anger.   Are you trying to overcompensate for any deficiency?   Haven't heard of anyone else complaining of muzzle flip or too much weight.  Tell us how you really feel about the GP 100 and get it all off your chest.  You will sleep better.

I bought a 4" stainless .38 Special model with the fixed sights when I found it for a good price. I had gotten Iowegan's Book of Knowledge and could improve the trigger pull considerably, to almost be as good as my Service Six. Mine came with the regular old style Ruger grips, which I consider some of the best stock revolver grips. Nevertheless, I changed them for Nills, which fill the hand a little better and absorb the recoil of my .38 Special +P+P+++ reloads a little better - but at the price of being less speedloader friendly.

Your math is incorrect. The 3" half lug, fixed sight model in SS weighs in at 35oz. The Wiley Clapp version weighs in at 36oz.

36
-35
1

1oz

When I picked up my first Clapp a buddy and I took it to the range and ran 200 rounds of Federal 357B (125gr JHP) in 45 minutes.  Not at all punishing even compared to my S&W 681PC.  Very little muzzle flip.  My hands had none of the usual soreness the next day.

no anger  no ruger hate just glock hatebut I I hate full barrel lugs  and the fact they are the style chafes me especially on guns where they serve no purpose like the 617  perhaps if shooters did more than target shoot with revolvers they would see just how much full lugs screw things up in the speed, balance, and natural pointing departments. pick up a 3" with a half lug or a 4 " no lug  you will see what I mean

my favorite a 686  7 shot mountain gun

Rugers are alright, I have a Wiley Clapp in bead blast.  I love the fact that they're built like tanks, makes me confident that I can put super hot magnums thru the gun and it'll survive.  I make a point not to do that with my older S&W's.  I think Rugers make excellent guns for reloaders, especially if you like to run your .357 close to original factory specs like I do.

I'm going to have to buy another one, this time in SS.  My wife has decided she wants one.  Smart lady.  She actually shoots better than I do with this revolver and I'm not too bad.   Now we'll have an SS paired up with a blue GP.  Life is great

Shoot safe, shoot often !

My first handgun was a 4" blued GP100 that I bought from my grandfather in 2002.  He had bought it in 1986, and when I got it from him the gun was still wrapped in plastic inside the box.  It's a great shooter, and I will never get rid of it.

I went ahead and bought my wife one.  Same 4" that I have but SS instead of blue.   She loves it.   She shoots it very well and it will serve her well in case any of the 4 legged or 2 legged critters try to hassle her or our livestock where we live.   She's much more accurate with it than with our Glock's.

Had a 6" stainless and 6" blued GP100, and sold them both like a full on retard.  I'm looking to pick up another real soon, might go 4" this time around.  The GP100 is, I think, the best bang for your buck .357 Mag on the market.  They look great, feel great and shoot great!

Yep, I streamlined my safe years ago, and got rid of a lot of stuff that was "excess"- not being used and/ or not worth a lot of $. I kept 1 wheelgun- my 4"stainless GP, and I'll never get rid of it.

I will pick up my WC GP100 Monday...what holster are you using?  Contacted Simply Rugged and LoboLeather per ALL the Ruger sites and get no response....so I need to find something else.  I prefer a pancake style with a retention strap (like the the GALCO FLETCH) that cover the muzzle and front sight.
As always, pictures are appreciated.

Are they yours?? Man  you know a good combat revolver when you have one.

I've done my fastest Bill drills using that revolver except I bought mine a long time ago. same grip but no rear sight.

I loved packing it AIWB.  I wouldn't  own a 4inch revolver If I was going IWB carry

For ME the 3inch is faster out of the holster.  I don't care about loss of FPS because I use 38spl+P    faster shooting more bullets on BG

If someone gave me 2 NIB GP100 3inch with old grip  I would give up my HK P30 S in a heart beat.

I bought a 6 and a 3incher

The very first group at 35yards had all 6rds into the xring of a B 27 target free hand

I almost shit my pants. that was done with the 6inch

Boy you can tell the difference when shooting 125SJHP. compared to a 4inch Barel.

Still for IWB carry I rather have a full 3 inch

I had a .stainless 357 Security Six, adj sights, 2 & 3/4 inch, I think.  It was my only gun and I reloaded for it and shot it everyday for 10 years.  I did put a spring kit in to lighten the pull but other then that it was stock.  I can't tell you how many rounds I fired, perhaps 50 a day for ten years.  The top strap was gas cut about 1/4 inch as I always used light 1500 fps+ ammo.  It was as tight as a new S&W when I sold it.  Accuracy had dropped off some but not much.  I went from there to the S&W 29 which is also a good accurate revolver.  Looking back I don't think a man can live long enough to wear out a Security Six by shooting it.

To me revolvers are addictive. S&W, Ruger, and Colt. I might branch out and snag some older Charter Arms and Dan Wesson guns.
