Went to my LGS to get a full size M&P 9 to go with my Shield, cheap gun at 379-. Have Glocks but the ergos just suck as you know...Checked out a VP9 LE($600-)could not believe how it felt in the hand!!! Whatever I get will be for range fun,HD and SHTF roll if need be. How complicated are the VP's inside, can they be repaired at home easily if something breaks???

So, these guns don't break?

I've had a M&P since they first came out and also have a VP9.  I have installed an Apex sear in every M&P I have owned and pulled the M&P's apart many times but I've had one 8 or 9 years.  The VP9 seems more complicated inside to me but I have only pulled the VP9 apart enough to install the match spring set.  The HK didn't seem any harder than the M&P to get apart.  About the only thing that I wouldn't want to touch is the trigger bar spring in the mag well of the VP9.  I do prefer the HK now just because I shoot it so well compared to my other pistols.   David

The VP9 felt fantastic in my hand, and then when PSA had them on sale for $500 shipped, I had to grab one.  Now I'm mad at myself that I didn't grab 2.

Long time Glock shooter here.  I own a LOT of Glocks.  But the VP9 has usurped them all as my EDC.  I just shoot it better.  I put TrugGlo TFX sights on it, and it's a pure dream to shoot.

Are the internals a little more complicated compared to a Glock?  Yes, and that trigger bar spring in the magwell is an "interesting" feature.  But for me, the way it fits in my hand and the way I shoot it far outweighs the potential pitfalls.

I am just hear to echo what two have already said'  I shoot the VP9LE better than any other handgun I have ever owned or shot. That is why I bought it plain and simple. It fits my hand very well and is comfortable for me to shoot. The VP9LE comes with night sights and 3 mags.
Buy with confidence

Given enough time, everything breaks. Simply physics.

But when my 14k+ VP9 finally chokes, I'll let ya know about it

I've been looking over my gf's VP9 trying to figure-out how the slide is disassembled because she's thinking about cerakoting it.

It's clearly not as obvious how to disassemble as my P30L, but I think if you push-out the extractor roll pin you'll find the other roll pin (the one you can see on the left side) under the extractor.

Put it this way….. the slide was assembled by a person. It wasn't 3D printed and Commander Data didn't come down from the Enterprise to beam the parts in. There's no welding, so it's safe to say that if you take your time, be gentle, and use your brain you'll be able to get it apart. The possible couple-hours of hassle and cost of a roll pin punch is inconsequential versus the benefits of having a nice gun.

You're overthinking your purchase. Odds are you'll never need to disassemble the slide. If you do, cross that bridge when you reach it.  There's always gunsmiths ya' know.

My apologies for being an ass; not trying to be mean or sarcastic. Just giving you the "come to Jesus" I think you need right now.

Enjoy your new VP9

I'm a mechanical engineer BTW.

It has almost TWICE! the number of parts as a Glock.

Typical German over engineering.

The VP9LE has now replaced all my Springfield XD's. It fits my hand like perfection and I can shoot this one the most accurately due to the ergonomics and fine german engineering and awesome barrel.

But it is a little sloppy in the way the polymer panels slide together in the grip. I have had to shave down some high edges, but now it is perfect. Magpul exactness it is not, but very secure, and I love the ability to mix and match side panels. I use the large side panel under my palm and the thin panel where my finger tips fall. Perfect fit!

Hornady Critical Defense 115g was the most accurate so far. Magtech (CBC) was very accurate ball ammo. CCI Blazer was all over the place, poor grouping.

I am back in the HK saddle again!

So you never even used the internet like you said you did, wonderful hip shooting integrity you've got there.

We're done, unloaded it still weighs less, or did you conveniently ignore that part?

We're done here.

What!!?? The VP9 is 23.28, and the Glock Gen4 is 23.65.

How does a heavier G19 Gen 4 weighing less than a VP9? How does 23.65 ounces weigh less than 23.28!?

Check out the Walther PPQ.  The ergonomics are similar to the VP9, and it has a better trigger.

The design is also easy to work on.  Following advice I found on the Walther Forum, I replaced my trigger spring with a $10 spring.  It lightened the pull to about 3.5 pounds.  Polishing the trigger bar and replacing the firing pin block pin makes the trigger very smooth.  Much less expensive than buying an after market trigger.

Wow.  Can we stop with the fanboy nonsense?  They're both great guns.

According to my scale, the weights of my guns empty:

VP9 - 666 grams (creepy), or 23.49 oz
G19 (gen3) - 606 grams, or 21.38 oz
G17 (gen4) - 633 grams, or 22.33 oz

I don't care if the VP9 weighs slightly more, or if it has more parts, or that it's down 2 rounds compared to a similarly-sized Glock 17.  I shoot it better.  Others shoot the Glocks better.

For both guns, it's astronomically unlikely that anything will break in the number of rounds I'll feed them.  I'd be willing to wager my life on either of them.

I did just pick up a second VP9.  Traded away a G19 and a G26 for it.  The VP9 has Trijicon HD sights on it.

And for those who might think I'm biased - I am.  I still have a few Glocks left.

I just bought my VP9LE today and it is the nicest striker fire pistol I have ever held. Much better than any glock I've owned. I can't wait to shoot it. The trigger feels really great. Quality gun all around!

I took my VP9LE to the range today. It's been awhile since my last range trip, but that pistol is pretty damn accurate at 7yds with a Silencerco threaded barrel. The trigger is also one of the better stock triggers I've had. This is my first striker pistol, btw. I've shot some Glocks from stock to aftermarket triggers and rmr's and they were fine, but not for me.

Just hit 5,000 rounds today.  either reloads (4.5gr HP38, 124GR Berry, mis brass, win SP primer) or nato spec 115Gr 9MM. I have yet to have a single malfunction, at all, not one. The only mods are dawson sights, and removal of the charging supports (I plan on reinstalling). ragular maintnence every 500 or so rounds.

previous glocks owned where 23 gen 3, 22 gen 3 , 35gen 3, 2X34(OD and BL, both gen 4), 2x 19 gen 3 and 4, and gen 4 17. pros and cons of both glocks and VP9. getting a couple 43s soon though.

I no longer own any Glocks. I'm not against them. I like solomon better than merrill and others like lowa better than both, it's what works best for you. it's also my money.

also picked up another VP9 for the wife that replaced her 34, and M&P 9. if that says anything about how i feel towards the weapon.
