Was at a local shop this weekend, and they had 2 different Colt 1908's in the case, like the one pictured below:



One was in pretty nice shape, no pitting, nice finish etc, and was priced at $400.

The other was a little more beat, pitting on the slide, but the finish was pretty much all there. Had a little more patina. This one was priced at $325.

I really like the 25 ACP cartridge, and I even reload for it.

Any advice on looking at these? What to watch out for? Are they decent shooters?

I have seen these sell on Gun Broker for much higher than these prices, so I figured it might be worth picking one up.

At least check these 2 items:

Ensure the manual safety does not flop up and down.  You want a definite forced click to engage and disengage.

Ensure the barrel has rifling.  Many have been rusted out then polished smooth.

I emailed the shop and I got a reply already.

Just the guns only, no boxes or accessories, and they are firm at the price. Said they got offers, but won't budge on price.

I don't mind finish wear but pitting is pretty much a deal killer for me. I recommend the better one if the previous poster's suggestions pan out.
