I have my eye on a gun and am hoping to buy it late this afternoon. I've had this 1903 in the back of the safe for awhile and never paid much attention to it, so I thought I would offer it up for trade. I have no papers or box, and the magazine appears to be the correct one. Figured I should be educated before I take an offer and it turns out it was made in 1903. Any help with the value?

Well my flikr skills fail, so I'll have to work on that. I'm keeping the gun for the time being though. Gun shop owner said they had 3 for sale for around $300, didn't care how old it was. I told him it was from 1903 and he respond that was the model number. I packed it back up and left. It would be nice to have an idea of value though.

Probably over a grand pretty easy.

If they have three sitting at the shop for $300 you should buy them all and resell them. Probably make a lot of money.

looks like you've got a Type I 1903 there, for current estimates on value check completed listings on gunbroker...most would probably be in the $400-700 range but I haven't checked in a while.

the above is a correct magazine for a Type I, note that it doesn't have a stamping like the Type II, III, and IV variants.

edit: also it would not be two-tone but all blued

That serial number will come back as 1903 manufacture year according to the Colt website. I have one of that year as well. Check out coltautos.com. There is a link to sell to a collector.

Here's my 1903/08 380 two tone manufactured in 1914, which I hadn't found much info on as it would seem to have been a custom order in that configuration, or someone in years past flipped and flopped a nickel with a blue.

Does the S/N on the underside of the slide match the frame?

I had to take it apart as I have never noticed any numbers under the slide.  No numbers underneath the slide.  This pistol has been in the family for over 40 years and I know Pop's was too frugal for a refinish.
