Okay, Colt 1911 lovers, I need your advice. I've always adored but never owned a Colt 1911 however, I carried a .45 in the Army for my first 8 years before we transitioned to the Beretta 9m. I have a Kimber and a Springfield, both in .45 and love them both. I do not want a carry gun, I want a shooter. I am only going to buy one (I said that when I bought my first of 10 Browning HPs). I don't want to go crazy with the cash, but don't want a cheapo either, if there is such a thing with the Colt 1911s. I'm going to the Tulsa show next month so I can get my hands on quite a few to try them out. Any suggestions on models? Based on ammo prices, I'm probably more apt to go with a 9m. Provide an estimated price also if you don't mind. Appreciate any advice.

You can have a "Genuine" M1911A1 re-issue just like a WWII .gov gun but you may have to spend a little more than you might think.

You could find a WWII gun for between 800 and 1200 bones.

You could buy a re-issue "Series 70" for a little under 900.

You can get a 1991 or "Series 80-90" with some MIM and plastic parts for around 875-900.  I'd then pull all the Series 80 guts and plastic parts and change it over (at the price of the new bits and pieces).

There are a few other good options like the new CZ M1911A1, but then it wouldn't have the little horsey.

The "little horsey." LOL! I do love my CZs. I just want a Colt not only for the quality but the tradition. I really like the XSE but don't want another pistol with a black slide. I'm starting to lean toward the Rail model only because it has the stainless without a black barrel and I like some of the features it offers: Novak's, match barrel, and the front serrations. Probably just get a used one. Your thoughts on that?

These have been discontinued but you can still find new ones floating around.  I bought one from this seller last week and he got it to my FFL in four days:

Just one???

Yeah right......

I think a 70 series re-issue would be a good choice.  Or a genuine original 70 series 9mm.

Yeah, I'm trying to discipline myself after one Browning H-Power quickly turned into 10. I do have a nice variety of them though.

If just 1 then make it a gold cup, 70 or 80 series.
