I want to get a PT-92.
Do their locking blocks break?   ..Like the Beretta ones?

no probs on my 99 that was bought in early '80's.

countless factory and reloads.

park is almost gone on the barrel.

prefer the frame mounted safety.

86model PT99 with 2500+ on it. No problems so far. Don't know it I would give it a steady diet of +P though.

I have a new PT 92, thousand rounds through it, not even a whimper.

BTW, 1K rounds is nothing at all.

I have never seen or heard of a locking block problem on a Taurus. The problems with the Berettas were directly linked back to HOT M882 Ammo. That compounded with a little abuse set up the chain reaction. That was in F guns. The FS guns had a slide retention feature in case of a broken block. The first department I worked with we had to buy our own weapons. That was 20 years ago. Majority of us bought Beretta 92FS. No one experienced a problem with the guns.
Only thing I can tell you is keep the rails and locking block lubed with CLP/Breakfree or a good oil. That design likes to be run wet.

I hate these threads. I see them pop up on the Active Topics page and get excited about PT boats. Damnit.

Seriously, replacing the recoil spring with a Wolff extra power unit will do more to prolong the life of a PT92/92FS than worrying about locking blocks.

The barrels and locking blocks on the PT series are just like the 2nd generation Beretta 92FS units.
I replaced my PT92 locking block with a 3rd gen Beretta factory part that I micro polished. 3rd gen units are fine for +P ammo and are used in the M9/M9A1.

I have had a pt92 locking block break.  This was after well over 10,000 RDS and some serious + p Israeli ammo that I should not have been shooting out of the pistol.  The block broke and locked up the pistol for a few days until I could jimmy it apart.  One new Beretta block later and another 5,000 RDS and she is doing fine.

That problem was on the Berettas only. Taurus had no problems that I am aware of. Shooting mine for 15 plus years, not one problem.

I have the older PT92 bought back in the late 80's.

I wish I had this on mine.
Going to get my son the new PT92 for Xmas.

I really like the way it feels and the decock is a nice addition.

I had a PT-99. Only got rid of it because I needed the money at the time.
Never had any problems with it.

Do they still sell the 99 these days? Seems all I ever see anymore are the fixed sight 92's.
My mid 80's 99 is still going strong.

No.
I've owned and shot both the Beretta 92F, and the Taurus PT92, the Beretta locking block broke and sent the slide into my shoulder at 516 rounds. I sold that one.
The Taurus PT92? Probably 6000 rounds, and two new barrels, and two total parts rebuilds since I bought it in the early '90s, with NO problems what so ever.

If no problems, why two new barrels, and two total rebuilds, you ask?

I like things to be tight, and ready to rock and roll. Barrels wear out, Springs weaken, parts wear thin... It's called "Preventive Maintenance", you maintain it, to prevent it from failing.
When you NEED a firearm, failure is NOT an option.
