I have the X300 on a sig p220, but that was the hottest thing out when I bought it. x400 has since come out. I love my x300, should I bump up? Should I change companies?

X300U is actually the hottest thing. X400 just has a laser on it.

X300 is still a great light. Save your money

The X300U is incredible. Picked up two of them, excellent lights.

+1.  I tried going from a 300 to a TLR-1S and sold it almost immediately and picked up a 300U.  It is an awesome light.  I have a DG switch on mine and I love the thing.

the 300 is a great light. Both SF and Streamlight are pretty much the top in weapon lights.

For carry lights i have become a HUGE nitecore fan.

I have to agree here. Insight makes some great lights too. I've got an XTI Procyon that I keep on my HD gun. It's a great light, bright as fuck, has a strobe function, and will fit almost any holster designed for the Insight M3 or M3X. The Procyon is a model that they don't make anymore, but they have something that's exactly like it that's just under a different name.

As for carry lights, I'll have to check out Nitecore. I've never heard of them. I'm in the market for a new carry light, got any suggestions? I've been looking at Elzetta lights and they seem to be pretty good. I'm looking for something that is decently bright, but not overly big and fat, that will carry well in my front pocket. A pocket clip on it would be nice too, and I'd like something that takes regular AA or AAA batteries, mainly because those photo cell batteries get expensive after a while.

Here's the XTI Procyon on my MK25.

IMHO Surefire lights are very good quality, but there are several manufactures today that produce very good lights for a lot less money.  I find it increasingly harder to justify paying a premium for the Surefire name.

In weapon lights I think they are still the tops a bit over priced but great gear.

In handheld lights they are great also but over priced and you can get WAY more light for WAY less money in a handheld pocket light.

Their CS is pretty good though in my experience.

X300 for handguns

X300U for long guns unless you are using a Scout or dedicated shotgun for end from Surefire.

For the most part Surefire is best for weapons or small battery powered handhelds.

Streamlight makes great rechargeable handhelds since SF rechargeables just aren't affordable

+1 I bought a rechargeable that uses an mini USB to recharge about a year ago. It is pretty badass and still going strong $60 for 800 lumens. All my freinds bought one after they seen and used mine.

I certainly have my share of Surefires, but I have to give a nod to Inforce. My preference has gone to their APL switching as opposed to the X300(U) series. More intuitive by far and you're saving some coin.

I dunno the TLR-1HL is pretty darn good.  and My TLR-1s stood up about 5 years of hard use.

For pistolights?  Yes

The streamlights are too damn wide, but their new offerings are really nice.  Very bright and well built.

Is the SF x300u thinner than a TLR 1HL?

I own a TLR1 HL....if the 300U is thinner I might consider switching.

I'm an APL fan. I love that it has decent runtime, great lumen output and is thin due to only 1 CR123. Surefire is a great light but I wouldn't trade my APL for one. My pocket light is a Surefire E2D Defender LED though.

my duty light is an srt-7. i used to carry a p25 but got a deal and sold the p25. both are VERY well made lights but the rails on the p25 made it a bit cumbersome. it has better flood than the srt7 but not as bright.

i bought the wife an ec-25 for her purse. 860lm and very small.

their interface takes some getting used to but IMHO they are better built than surefires at a much better price. the forums seem to say customer service is decent but not as good. that said i suspect you will never need it. i beat the living hell out of my p25 for a year with the FD and the light still looked new when i sold it to a buddy.

Even though I have two X300U Surefire lights on my handguns, I give a nod to Streamlight, because their cheaper and are shaped in a way that allows you to mount an Osprey silencer, on the Glock you have use a round silencer like the Octane when using the Surefire. As to the above chart, the Streamlight has 130 more lumens than the Surefire.

This is an excellent beam shot comparison - thanks for posting.  I love my Surefires, but I do have a TLR-1 HL on my handgun.
