I can't say whether it's the best, but I carry HST standard pressure in my 30S

There are some good options. Here are some test tesults from a 45 with a slightly shorter barrel: http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-defense-ammo-ballistic-tests/
I would also look at Gen 3 DPX, which should expand wider than the 185gr barnes. Im into penetration so might use 230gr XTP+P but I think most would prefer the Ranger T or HST results above. |

I carry HST in both my 30 and my AMT Backup. The Backup has an even shorter barrel. No failures on either.

I carry the 230 Grain Short Barrel load in my 3" Kimber.
Chronographs at 805 fps. |

When I carry a .45 (G30SF), I carry standard pressure Gold Dot or HST, both 230 grain.
