I really enjoy your videos bluefalcon and in the video you asked if there was any ammo Ventura Ammunition carried we'd be interested in seeing tested.
I'm retired LEO and in the 80's & 90's my Agency issued S&W 9 MM pistols, 39-2 then 439 and last 5904/6904. Our issue ammo was Federal 9BP LE +P+ 115 grain JHP or Winchester +P+ 115 grain JHP Q4174. My agency had good results with this ammo and it even proved effective out of Tactical Teams 10.5" Colt sub guns.
I'm still old school and like the 9 MM 115 grain FMJ for practice and 115 grain JHP for CC carry. Ventura stocks Federal 9BP +P+ 115 grain JHP and Speer 115 grain +P+ Gold Dot. Ventura also stocks standard pressure 9 MM 115 grain Gold Dots plus a couple other brands. I currently carry a Glock 43 and back in the 90's carried a S&W 3913.
I wish you would test some of the 115 grain offerings in short barrels. I place more value on shot placement and adequate penetration first over bullet caliber and expansion. I know the heavier bullets tend to find favor today but the Winchester white box 115 grain JHP is still on the market as is the Federal 115 grain JHP.
I'm curious to see if the 115 grain JHP are prone to under penetrate in short barreled pistols like the S&W Shield, Glock 43 or Kahr. I'm curious if the +P+ 9 MM ammo provides a significant increase in velocity compared to the standard pressure 115 grain JHP and +P 9 MM 115 grain JHP. In a short barrel does the +P+ 9 MM impede controllability enough to hinder it's usefulness compared to standard pressure or +P? Is there enough increase in velocity to warrent carrying a +P+ 115 grain JHP over a standard pressure 115 grain JHP or + P 9 MM?
I know the newer design Federal HST 9 MM are very popular today but the human anatomy has not changed since the +P+ 9 MM was popular with the LE community. Some ole geezers believe if it ain't broke don't fix it. So are the newer bullet designs significantly better than the ole +P+ 9 MM?
