I have a 342PD J frame and at 8.8 ounces the gun is BRUTAL with Speer Gold Dot +P's.

I would like to find a round that offers low recoil but still has decent penetration. Looking into the Oath Halo copper solids, but I can't find any ballistic testing on them.

IMHO.  You need to get a heavier gun. I have a 642 and the Speer +P is not comfortable but is controllable.   Cary the extra weight for better control with an effective round.
