Saw some new stuff at one of the gun stores the other day.  I think it was called Impact Ammo, or Impacto, or some strange name.  Came in a black box kind of like that HPT stuff, but the bullets are held in a hexagon shaped plastic holder instead of your typical round-hole plastic.  Some of the bullets looked like plain old LRN, said something about poly case explodey tips or something but it looked like standard nickel.  Some of the rounds they had looked like some sort of tri-tip wing with no HP.

Seems like another one of those "Extreeeem Shock" deals, but comes in regular boxes.

Anybody know about it?  I'm assuming it's just goofy stuff, but always interested in new tech.

LOL yeah that stupid thread keeps rolling through my head because it's something like that, and I can't pin it down.  Pretty sure it wasn't that.

Interesting idea.  Would certainly need to see some gel testing.

I'm always in favor of innovation.  Things can always be improved on.  I don't think you can assume that hollow point is the ONLY thing that can be effective.

I also see it as a good (if it performs, of course) option for people stuck in states like New Jersey where hollow points are banned.....
It may also feed better than a standard hollow point if you have a finicky gun (my solution is get a reliable gun, but a box of ammo would be a cheaper alternative...)

Agree on being a fan of innovation. Afaik, the JHP handgun bullet came along in my lifetime; or certainly not before my dad's. First I recall is the Super Vel of 1963, and that was in my time, so the JHP is a relative newcomer itself and so isn't above being eclipsed one of these days by something better. I'm sure that there were a lot of nay-sayers about JHPs came around, and there were certainly hiccups involved when first using them in guns whose designs pre-dated that bullet style and weren't intended to feed & fire them.

Is this a good load? Dunno. Is it something I'm going to jump on? No. Is it a further step in design evolution/progress? Dunno, but possibly.

Good penetration at least. No expansion or fragmentation, though.

Agree.  I'm underwhelmed.  Oh well.

I think I could put some Tootsie Rolls in the sun and get something that looks similar and probably performs just as well.

To be clear, I'm not at all endorsing this round or this type of round; I'm just open to new approaches, much as the JHP was a new approach itself surprisingly recently.

Not to be argumentative, because I do see your point - but if expansion and/or fragmentation were the only things that had a bearing on effectiveness, a RNL bullet would be as effective on flesh as a SWC or Keith-style bullet; and that's obviously not the case.
