Hi Folks,

I have started carrying a full-size Springfield 1911 for my defensive handgun, and I have been sold on gold dots for a long time. I have recently discovered the "Short Barrel" Gold Dots, and I gather that they expand more reliably at low velocities. Other than that, they apparently have the same bonded constructions as the regular hollowpoints. My question is, provided both the standard and short barrel gold dots feed reliably in my 1911, is there any downside to the short barrels? I like that extra marginal penetration that they offer. I worry that perhaps they experience jacket-core separation at higher velocities if fired from a full-length barrel, but other than that, I can't really see any downside.

Thanks for your help!

No issues that I've noted when running the 135gr .38s out of my 4 and 6 inch .357s.  I like the fact it doesn't seem to throw as big of a fireball at night.  I haven't tried the short barrel rounds in my .45 though.
