Does anyone have any sources for gel tests for this round in a short barrel?  I have found a few, but they were out of a 5" 1911 barrel and I would be carrying them in the XDS.

I am using Gold Dots currently, but was looking for something that penetrated a little deeper for use in the winter.  Thanks for the help in advance.

This makes no sense.  The Gold Dots will penetrate more in winter (with heavy clothing) than in summer.

Stick with your gold dots or any one of these:

Barnes XPB 185 gr JHP (copper bullet)
Hornady Critical Duty 220 gr +P JHP
Federal HST 230 gr JHP (P45HST2)
Federal HST 230 gr +P JHP (P45HST1)
Federal Tactical 230 gr JHP (LE45T1)
Speer Gold Dot 230 gr JHP
Winchester Ranger-T 230 gr JHP (RA45T)
Winchester Ranger-T 230 gr +P JHP (RA45TP)

They all perform about the same

Thanks gentlemen.  I have read through the Ammo FAQ and have referred to it many times over the years in choosing different loads.  I know that what I am using will get the job done, but I am still slightly curious as to the performance of this round.  Since the data seems to be either hard to find or non-existent, I may end up just buying a block of gel from Clear Ballistics and doing my own test.  If I do decide to go that route, I will make sure to document it well and post the results here in case anyone else has the same question.  Thanks again for the help.

lf you can find some test results for RA45B; its the same loading in the 50 round law enforcement packaging at half the price.

you can compare some of the tests directly at the ATK website.  230gr Gold dot is a good choice for all around carry.

Critical Duty has some decent penetration, at the expense of expansion.
