ARFCOMers, I seek your expertise.

Thanks entirely to APEX for their forward set trigger and reset, I am in love with my M&P 9. In fact it may be my conversion from .45 ACP to 9mm.

My office has a personal duty policy where I can carry a personal gun if I so choose. I am considering getting a second M&P for on duty carry. Don't get me wrong, love my .45, but I'm a LEO with good ammo (HST in 9mm and .45) and capacity and shot placement may rule the day.  I was looking at the 5 inch model and was curious if there was any noticeable performance gains between the 5 inch and 4.25. I currently carry a 5 inch barreled 1911.

Appreciated!

Blasphemy! 1911 for everything!

Jk jk. From what I have read and researched with the 9mm you're not going to notice a significant increase in 9mm performance from a 4 to 5. And I would imagine the twist is going to be the same from 4.25 to 5.

You are going to gain more weight with a 5, so less recoil theoretically.

And a longer sight plane equaling better ease of aim.

I have both, and the 5" M&P 9 was my choice for a duty pistol when we were allowed to supply our own. I prefer the sight radius and balance of the 5" barrel over the 4.25" barrel. Probably because I learned to shoot on the 1911. The 4.25" is good too and what I'm currently issued.

The longer barrel doesn't really provide a performance advantage until 25 yards and beyond where I can be a tad faster with a slightly less precise sight picture over the shorter barrel.
