I have a Model 60(no dash), .38 Special that was given to me by my father.  Serial number on the butt is R2277xx.  I believe it was made in 1969 but was wondering if anyone confirm this or tell me the actual year it was manufactured?  Thanks!

The R series began in 1969 with R1. That is as much as my reference says. With your serial number It would appear to be of later manufacture.

Since it's Dad's gun, *I* would get a factory letter from S&W. Cost is a nominal $35-40 & they give you the date of birth & who it was first shipped to. Suitable for framing.........
