that doesn't sound like a S&W 29 serial number. A mod 29 s/n should have a lettr S or N prefix, followed by six digits. The s/n are located on the underside of the backstrap/butt. If your 29 has full size grips you'll have to remove them to expose the s/n.

Open the cylinder, you may see the model no stamped behind the crane. Is it a MOD 29, or is it a MOD 29-something?

EDIT: nevermind, TJB is a more recent prefix. The standard catalog doesn't have much info on that sequence, but it's probably late 80s or into the '90s. The - number may help date it more closely

I never dated a Model 29 but did, lovingly, eye a Model 27 for some time.
