I don't think the standard barrel would work.

I got a Bar-Sto conversion barrel, (around $230) and a 9mm recoil spring, and made my .357 P239 into a 9mm.   This was about ten years ago, and it has been a 9mm ever since.   Runs like a top with .357 mags and I can get 8 rounds in 'em.

Brass is easy to identify because the firing pin indentation is slightly offset, but never had a failure to fire.

It is still laser accurate too.

Two factory barrels, threaded and standard, work perfectly in my .40.  I have over 1400 rounds of 9mm through the two of them combined and haven't had a failure of any kind.  The only thing I swap is the 9mm barrel, everything else is .40.

Yes as Beowulf said.  No need for a conversion barrel

I can concur, no conversion barrel needed for P239 or P224.

Yes factory barrel is drop in. The .40 239 is a 3 caliber gun with just a barrel change. .40 mag works for all 3.

That's really interesting, I never knew that about the 239!

I tried it today. I only swapped the barrel, everything else was the original 357s parts, including the magazine. Worked fine.

I did have a problem with the slide not locking back on an empty magazine. I then put it back to 357s and had the same problem. I don't know what's going on assume it's a magazine problem. Happened with both magazines. Don't remember having a problem before

When was the last time you lubed the pistol?

If you want to try the whole 3 caliber thing CDNN has a pretty good deal on used .40 mags.  I haven't bought any so don't know the actual condition but at that price it might be worth a try.
