Thinking about getting one of these and refinishing it. Would it be possible to convert to 9mm?

I have a 229 in .40 and all I had to do is drop in a 9mm barrel.  Nothing else changed, and works fine with .40 mags.

You mean a conversion barrel and not just a factory 9mm P229 barrel, right?

OP: I bought a threaded conversion barrel from Bar-Sto and it works great.

I bet the stock 9mm barrel works too.
I have a 239 357/40 and dropped in a stock Sig 9mm threaded barrel. Works flawlessly and I can use the 357 magazines.

I have a at least 12 .357/.40 sig marked mags for my 229s and about 20 9mm mags but I have never tried using the .40 marked mags for 9mm. I know the recoil springs are different and I have switched the barrels, springs and mags all around with no issues.

I have been thinking about getting a conversion barrel for my P229. I have two slides for my P229 (both for a 40SW). I am thinking about buying a Bar Sto barrel to convert it to 9mm. I know the sights for 40 SW sights are different height than the 9MM. Will it effect the point of impact using the stock sights? Should I buy the 9MM sights (I think they are 8 front and 8 Rear)?

I've been using a 9mm Barsto conversion barrel for my P229 for years. I've run hundreds of rounds through it using the .40 recoil spring and .40 mags without issue.  Never noticed a change of impact or problem with function.  This has all been at an indoor range, so I can't speak for shooting at a longer distance. I would recommend changing to a 9mm recoil spring and 9mm mags if one was to use the conversion barrel in a carry weapon.

Unless something has changed since I did this a couple of years ago....SIG does not recommend using a SIG made 9mm barrel in in a .40/357 P229. Maybe this has changed with the newer barrels. Maybe somebody that has both could use some calipers and post if they measure the same or not.

I went with a conversion barrel made by another company. But I am sure SIG does not recommend using these either. I use 9mm ammo in the .40 mags with no issues yet. I only do this for range use.

You could also buy the X-caliber conversion kit. Basically a complete new slide with a mag. I was just pricing them and they looked to be about $299 to $356 depending on which one you go with.

I ordered the last "Fair-Average" P229 .357 sig from there this AM.  There were 9 left yesterday.  Saw 1 left this AM and HAD to jump on it

This thread makes me want a .357 sig barrel for my 229.

Pretty certain that the opening in the slide is bigger on the .40/.357 so the Sig 9mm barrel would be loose.  Similarly/opposite, you can't get a .40/.357 barrel in a 9mm slide (hole is too small).  So a .40/.357 slide can use .40/.357/9mm, but the 9mm would have to be a conversion barrel (not factory barrel).
