I've always wanted a p220 (and I'd be happy with brand new).  the p227 would be a nice option for the mag capacity.
p226 is a classic Sig.  I'd say the p226 and p220 are the prototypical Sig's.

I have a .40 p229 and a 9mm p226 and am super happy with them.

If you want a standard model, look into buying a .22 Classic and then get the Centerfire conversion kit.  Winds up same price as the standard centerfire but get "free" night sights AND a .22 upper  Not available for all models, and not if you want one of the specialized models.  Can be hard to find the conversion kits also....

If you want all steel, they make stainless versions of most (stainless frames).
If you really want to revolt against "Tupperware" get a p210

I have an older P220 with the Hogue grip and just recently picked up a newer 9mm P226 w/E2 grip, other than the SRT trigger on the 226 and caliber difference they both feel similar, I can't say one is better than the other. As much as I like the double stack .45s I have several 10 round extended .factory 45 magazines for the 220 so I don't feel 'undergunned'. Both have night sights which is a must for any serious duty pistol, and while I've never spent a lot of money for aftermarket trigger work/upgrades the SRT is pretty nice, my P220 may get an upgrade this year.

I have a P226 and I have very stumpy hands. With the E2 grip and short reset trigger, it feels absolutely perfect. Hell it felt perfect before installing the SRT. Awesome handgun.

For reference, comparing standard grip vs. E2:

Seriously, I shot a new VP9 (HKs are supposedly super ergonomic) and the Sig just fit me better. I felt like my fingers weren't trying to be forced into some predetermined grooves. You will not regret it.
