Just looking for ideas to make the 21 better / more fun / more useful

I got a lwd barrel for it not long ago.
Still works like a champ although it wouldn't feed 185 swc lead reloads i had on hand.
Fed 4 diff types of factory ball and hp along with my reload ball no problem.

Did some reading but all threads seemed old but looked like 45 super was a bad idea?

I haven't shot competitively in years but from trying to digest all the rules it looks like the 21 doesn't fit anyplace where it would be a benefit if i ever get back into this.

Get a .460 Rowland Barrel from either Lone Wolf or buy direct.

I'm planning to convert my gen 3 to 460 Rowland. Should be fun and it'll knock the shit out of hogs if I get the chance

It would fit in USPSA Limited 10 or you could download your ammo and shoot in USPSA Production division.

It's not ideal, but it is legal for USPSA Open (don't do that), Limited (mag extensions would be a good idea), Limited 10 (lol), and Production (don't do that either) as well as IDPA SSP, ESP, or CDP.  It would be right at home in IDPA CDP shooting against other 45s.

And you can put a 40 conversion barrel in it, use G20 mags, and it would be fine in Limited.

I used to occasionally shoot a G21 in CDP just to stomp on the 1911 guys.

Other than that, I never had any use for a 45 that wasn't a 1911.

The 21 can live in harmony with 1911's that can even live in harmony with 9mm glocks who even get along with a pocket carry ruger cause glock built a ill sized single stack 9.

It's the people who usually can't let them get along in their mind

I'm still listening to ideas and need to really read the USPSA rules.......... i have done a couple idpa competitions i don't think i can handle all those rules
(a few shoots doesn't equal competing seriously like i did back in the IPSC days)
