I thought this would be a good place to consolidate information on GSSF, as there are a few active topics on the subject spread through this and other individual forums. In a nutshell, GSSF is a great way to get into competition shooting if you own a Glock pistol. No holster is needed, No reloading on the clock, No shooting while moving. The fundamental mission of GSSF is to introduce new shooters into the world of competitive shooting. The rules and procedures necessary for everyone to safely and enjoyably attend a competitive shooting event may be somewhat different from what you are used to at your local shooting range, local shooting club, or the back pasture back home where you plink tin cans. We therefore must insist that you follow the safety and match rules and procedures detailed here and not those that you may be used to elsewhere. GENERAL INFORMATION: Sourced from the 2015 GLOCK Report Volume II. I am new to GSSF and shooting competitions. What do I need to know? Everything can be found on our website, GSSFOnline. For new shooters it will help if you read the sign in procedure, “GSSF made easy,” and new competitor briefing. Those are located under the “Hot Topics” link. You can only shoot each division one time per match. If you want to shoot more than one gun you need to shoot different divisions. If you still have questions you can email us or you can call 770-437-4718. GSSF Made Simple New Competitor Breifing EQUIPMENT AND DIVISIONS "Stock GLOCK Philosophy" It is our intention to keep Amateur-Stock and Master-Stock divisions on a “level playing field” by ensuring the use of stock GLOCK firearms in all divisions except for the Unlimited division. We want to avoid an equipment race in our sport and will not allow firearm modifications that provide an artificial and mechanical competitive advantage. The goal is to test individual skill where everyone is using comparable equipment. Competitors are divided into Amateurs and Masters. Masters are defined, among other things, as professional shooters, competitors considered "master" level shooters in other shooting disciplines, those that have won three guns in GSSF compeitions in the past, and other criteira as listed on page 26. It is important to note that some divisions list Amateurs and Masters together, however the prizes are determined separately, so they are not directly competing against each other for that purpose. Masters will be listed in the results with an asterisk after their name. I will break down the divisions in as simple a manner as I can describe it. (Glock doesn't use the capacity to describe any division but I find it is easier to explain them in this way) For simplicity sake, I will list "standard capacity models" as any subcompact, compact, or full sized gun able to load a minimum of 10 rounds as it comes from the factory. (any 9mm, .40S&W, .357Sig, 45ACP, 45GAP, and 10mm). By "low capacity" I mean those that come from the factory only able to load seven rounds (G36, G42, G43). "Standard Capacity" divisions (All strings can start with 10 +1) "Low Capacity" divisions (all strings can only start with 6+1) Competitors may:
The Registration Form will also outline which models are allowed in which division. The Pocket and Ladies divisions are on a different sheet. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS If I do not pre-register for an outdoor match can I still shoot? Yes, you can register at the match and join or renew. If you pre-register it will save you time, you won’t have to stand in registration lines at the match. If you are pre-registering please note that pre-registrations have to be into GSSF by noon, Eastern time, the Wednesday before the match. That gives staff time to get all paperwork packed and ready to go to the match. Can I bring a friend to watch the match? Yes, they will need to stop by registration and sign a liability form. They will also need to bring hearing and eye protection with them. When will the match results be posted? The preliminary results will be posted soon after the match. If there is an error in your results please email GSSF with your name and the match name. Please let us know in which division and which course of fire the error is located. The match will be finalized in approximately 4 weeks. If we have a heavy match schedule it will take longer to finalize matches. Once the match is finalized you will see the prizes for that match listed with the scores. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS Initial Membership Package Your initial membership package will include a copy of the GLOCK Annual magazine, a range bag, a copy of the GLOCK Report detailing the GSSF program itself and several other promotional items. Matches Nationwide The biggest single benefit is to allow you to compete in the GSSF matches themselves. There are fifty five of these outdoor matches scheduled for 2016, nationwide. Prizes from the 45 finalized 2015 matches averaged 23 guns, 17 2-year membership extensions, and about $4700 in cash and commodity awards. The larger the match, the larger the number of and greater the quality of the awards. With record-setting attendance, our 2015 1,401-entry Griffin, GA match awarded a total of 64 firearms, 48 2-year membership extensions and $18,875 in cash awards There are also over one hundred indoor league match series nationwide each year. These are held at GLOCK Stocking Dealers who also run indoor ranges. Firearm and other GLOCK item awards are also a feature of these matches. Armorer’s Classes As a GSSF member you are allowed access to the basic GLOCK Armorer’s class. As a GLOCK owner, this teaches you how to detail strip and maintain your GLOCK collection. CMP Affiliation GSSF is affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The CMP makes World War II-era military long guns and ammunition for them available to those eligible to purchase at preferential prices. Pistol Purchase Program New members who join for two or more years and all renewing GSSF members are eligible to participate in the Pistol Purchase Program, as allowable by local laws. Eligible members will receive a coupon which can be used at participating dealers. More information on this program can be found in the GSSF FAQs on page 7. How do I receive a pistol purchase coupon? If you are a renewing member you will automatically receive a new member card and coupon. If you are a new member you will need to join for a minimum of 2 years. When you receive your member packet you will receive a member card and coupon. They are located on the bottom of the welcome letter. You will receive one coupon per year as long as you are a current member. If you are a new member joining for one year, you will not receive a coupon until you renew your membership. If you don’t receive your coupon, you can email us at [email protected] with your name and member number (if you know it) to request one. How do I use my pistol purchase coupon? GSSF Pistol Purchase Coupons must be used at a dealer that carries law enforcement GLOCK models. If you have a dealer near you that sells to Law Enforcement you can contact them to see if they are participating in the program. If you do not know of any dealers near you, call the GSSF office at 770-437-4718 for assistance. START POSITION
The start positions in GSSF are different from many other shooting sports due to the fact that no holster is needed. Hold your firearm in your hands, with your forearms touching your torso. The muzzle is pointed into the impact berm behind the targets, parallel to the ground or lower, at the ground between you and the targets. Alternatively, hold your firearm in the “Low Ready” position; both arms holding the firearm, arms roughly straight, firearm pointed at the ground NO MORE THAN about 6 feet in front of the shooter, at the sole judgment of the Range Officer. In either position, the trigger finger must be outside of the trigger guard. SCORING FOR OUTDOOR MATCHES The paper targets used are the NRA D1 "Tombstone" targets, available from several different vendors. The score is your time (in seconds), plus any penalties you may incur. The time is added in the following way: Alpha/Bravo = A/B hit Charlie = C hit Delta = D hit Mike = Miss In both of the courses with paper targets, you will run them three different times (three "strings") and will be scored for having six hits on each target. NOTE: There are two divisions for the low capacity guns (Glock 36 for MAJOR SUB & Glock 42/43 for POCKET) Those will only require one hit per paper per string, and will be scored a total of three hits instead of six. The steel plates (or steel popper) is simply scored as a hit or a miss. You complete each stage in each division you are shooting, and can do so in any order that you wish. Procedural penalties will add 10 seconds for each occurrence. (Earned by the competitor if he or she commits course of fire infractions, attempts to gain an unfair competitive advantage, or causes unnecessary delay.) Examples can include making up shots on paper targets, or firing more than 10 rounds in 5 to Glock or 11 rounds on Glock M or the Plates. OUTDOOR MATCH COURSES OF FIRE FIVE TO GLOCK <-click for full description 5 to GLOCK consists of five paper targets, possibly ranging out to 25 yards. Two shots are scored on each paper target for three strings. GLOCK 'M <-click for full description Glock M consists of four paper targets and one (or three) steel poppers, possibly ranging out to 15 yards. Sometimes multiple steel poppers are set up, but you only use one per string. Sometimes there is one popper on the stage that you are supposed to hit each string. Sometimes a plate is used instead of a popper. Whichever setup is used, the steel is only hit one time per string. Two shots are scored on each paper target and one steel target per string, for three strings. GLOCK the Plates <-click for full description This one is very simple. You have four strings on a plate rack consisting of six plates. Me shooting a full course of fire: Episode 249 of The Power Factor Show covered an outdoor GSSF match shot by Larry. SCORING AND COURSES FOR INDOOR MATCHES Indoor matches are quite different from the outdoor matches. They are designed to be completed in a single lane on an indoor range, possibly up to 75', however is limited to the length of the range. You are never shooting at more than one target at a time in the indoor match. There scores are fixed time "you have x seconds to complete the course of fire" and the scores are the points you accumulate on the targets. The same NRA D1 target is used, and the points per area of the target are explained on the right hand side of the graphic below. The left hand side are possibilities for the courses of fire that may be used. Episode 224 of The Power Factor Show covered an indoor GSSF league match shot by Larry. |

I use circles that are the scale size of the +0 ring at 25/15/10yds. Download a shot timer app and practice your press-out on the 25yd target from the beep. Getting a clean break on target in a second is a good goal. The tombstone targets used in GSSF can make it difficult to see exactly where the scoring ring is. I used printed versions with and without the rings, and would transition back and forth between the two until it was instinctive. KNOW YOUR POA/POI AT 25YDS WITH EVERY GUN YOU SHOOT!!! If you can't get clean 25yd hits consistently on the +0 ring, you are going to be in trouble! SHOOT THE SAME AMMO IN TRAINING THAT YOU WILL SHOOT AT THE MATCH I did all my live fire training on an indoor range with paper targets. Here is what you can practice: Doubles at 25yds. Press-out doubles at 25yds. Transitions Cadence. Lots of this can be done with scale targets on an indoor range. Make a target with a 1" circle, 2" circle, 3"circle and 4" circle stringing horizontally. Hang at 5 yds and shoot a pair on each several times. Turn it upside down and shoot it again. Do you shoot it faster left to right? Smaller to larger? These are the kind of things you need to find out. FWIW, while you can shoot different guns in different classes, I've found that it's an advantage to shoot the same gun in multiple classes. A G19/17 can be shot in AmCivilian and Competition back to back on the line, which I think gives you more of an advantage than shooting two different guns with different sights/triggers etc. As an experiment, I shot my stock g26 in subcompact/Master and my g34 in Competition/Unlimited back to back. All four scores fell within 50-55 seconds, even though the g34 has a longer sight radius, better sights and a smoother trigger. I'd spent more time dry-firing the g26, and the faster times with the g34 were balanced out by the fact that one or two thrown shots adjusting to the lighter trigger added +3 seconds each. FWIW, when you see what some of the top guys can do with stock Glocks, it really makes you question how much aftermarket shit you need. It is really an "Indian not the arrow" moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BG3dwRVp64 View Quote |

I need help guys ...
As I mentioned in a previous post I willl be shooting my first match March 24/25 in Sparta IL. I am a veteran and plan to shoot in the Amateur-Guardian division. I'm looking at the rules right now and 170.90 states that the 17, 19 and 21 (plus others) can be shot in this division. I plan to shoot these three pistols as I own them all. My question is can I shoot 3 separate Guardian matches? One with the 17. One with the 19 and one with the 21? Or am I only allowed to register in the Guardian division with one pistol model. For example the 17. Forcing me to shoot the other two pistols in separate divisions. For example: Amateur Civilian with the 19. And heavy metal with the 21? My thought process is that it seems advantageous from a competition standpoint that I might have a better chance of winning some prizes competing in Guardian due to lower number of competitors. I'd like to shoot all 3 pistols (17,19,21) in Guardian and my 26 in subcompact. Maybe throw in the 34 in competition division but that's making my overall day quite pricey! $$$ |
|
|
Nice consolidation of rules and info I would encourage any one who owns a glock to shoot these matches as it will definitely help you learn how to shoot the stock glock platform well.
As to the last poster you can only enter each division once you can not shoot for example guardian multiple times. You would have to enter different divisions to shoot more. |
|
|
Also you can not shoot in both civilian and guardian one or the other!
I would shoot guardian subcompact and competition to start. I find that it works better initially to keep things simple and bring one gun that can compete in all divisions you register for and limit all the spare stuff you need to keep track of. In fact for gssf I simply bring my 26 and shoot master stock competition and subcompact with the one gun. I am a master class shooter but just good enough to be in the bottom of master class with no realistic chance of ever winning in master class but continue to go as I simply enjoy the shooting and like seeing top shooters who can shoot better with a stock glock than 99% of the people who feel they need to modify them to be able to shoot well. |

If you have a 26, 17, 19, 34 and 21 you could shoot any of the following: Am Guardian -or- Am Civ (not both) - any of your pistols Heavy Metal - 21 Competition - any Sub compact - 26 Master Stock - any Also, you can shoot the same gun in multiple divisions if you want, so if you want to shoot your 17 and not your 19, that's okay. |

I've shot 3 matches this year. Won a 2 yr free membership renewal and a gun so far. It's a lot of fun and for me has been a good measurement in which guns I shoot better than others. |

Sort of a shame that they can’t grow it into relevancy in the shooting sport world...perhaps they should just partner with IDPA or something |

I’m rather dissatisfied with GSSF. I had a coupon for one of their pistols and had a flood in my house and we had to throw everything into storage. We had a lot of problems with insurance and everything got delayed. We finally got thing squared away and got our new floors etc. when we started unpacking i found my coupon. Called them and they said it had expired and they wouldn’t honor it. I told them I’d send them my insurance paperwork etc showing what happened but they did nothing and refused me. I’ve sold so many people on glocks and have shot them competitively for close to 20 years. I still can’t believe they wouldn’t make an exception for what had happen. To me, that speaks volumes about GSSF.

Yes,we shot Wellington on Sunday. I was fortunate enough to win a pistol in Major Sub, and a random $50 in Master Stock. My wife has been fighting recurring back problems and with the heat and humidity didn't have
a good match. It was the reason we missed Hallsville,MO this year. I know this is kind of a late notice, but the Louisville,NE match is October 6-7 and it is one of the best run matches in GSSF. My wife has been doing PT and had a cortisone shot and is doing better,so we are going to shoot Louisville on Sunday the 7th. If you make the match just look for our cart and say hello. Had a hell of a blister by the end of it. I won't bother with Unlimited again unless I get a gun with a dot on it (my 34 is set up for USPSA production). I may not shoot Subcompact on my next couple matches either. I need to inventory my ammo, maybe that will make my decision for me. |
