Waiting my g19 slide to get back for the custom shop I sent it to and got a g30s this weekend and wondered what the slide would look like on a compact frame. It fit just fine to bad the ejector and 45 mags don't fit in the grip. Question is why doesn't  Glock make a compact framed 45?

Yes indeed I love mine even if it's not green. Gen 4 30S such a sweet shooter! Too bad Glock doesn't offer it. It's a bad ass little gun that can take 21 mags. Fit in s g19 holster.

I've never understood why Glock doesn't make a compact .45acp. For me the g19 fit my hand like a full size pistol but not a centimeter more than needed. Small enough for carry yeti  can spend all day at the range comfortably. IMHO the best of the 9mms. I like my G21 but if they'd offered a compact .45acp I'd have gone with that in a flash.

If .45acp is dying then I guess 9mm is the only caliber alive. I've been hearing the same about revolvers for 20 years but there still seem to be an ample selection of compact carry & full frame range models to buy.

I suppose I should tell my 9mm 1911 that it's bigger brothers aren't long for this world...

The 30 is the compact .45 from what I always understood. It is the .45 ACP equivalent to the 19/23. The cartridge itself limits how small it can go, hence the GAP failure of 10 years ago.

I think the OP's point is that the frame is a bit longer on the G19.  The 30 uses that extra long mag bottom to lengthen the grip obviously.  Why not just extend the frame and not use an extra thick mag bottom?  It is more like the baby Glocks now.  At least that's how I'm interpreting what he says.  But I agree that overall it's basically a compact pistol.  So....  they probably don't feel the need to have another.  I'm guessing that frame might be a bit longer than a G26/27.   IMHO, that would be a really good size.

A single stack Glock in 45 that is about the size of a G19. Kinda like a G36 that holds 7-8 rounds...that would be interesting.

The GAP models tried to address this issue. I think that if the GAP guns had the same size slide as the 9mm, it would have been more popular. You are getting every bit of 45ACP performance in the GAP with the grip frame size of the 9mm guns. Unfortunately for Glock, the cool kids that love the ACP and constantly ask for guns in 45, laugh and joke about the GAP, even though it is what they have been asking for...

45 ACP was a dying cartridge until they figured out the 9mm can't penetrate a Carhartt jacket.

Lol, I like .45, but it's on the decline in popularity. 9mm and .40 shooters are not flocking to 45. When I say it's "dying," I don't mean expect it to be obsolete tomorrow, or even the next 50 years. Slowly but surely though, less and less .45 will be sold. Look at .38 spcl and .357, seems the market for it has shrunk considerably in last 10 years.

Most of the "experts" are saying go 9mm now, and are carrying 9s themselves. 45 ACP rose in popularity because of the AWB from '94 and there has now been a correction in trends due to modern bullets and pistols that hold twice as many rounds in the magazine.

Part of me wanted an M&P compact .45 or a G30s but I am pretty sure it would sit and not get shot.

ETA- proof I like .45 https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_5_4/165052_9_is_fine__but__45_is_just_magical_.html&page=1

While I agree with some of the things said 45 is not going away if anything 9mm and 45 will be the last two big service calibers.  45 has some advantages that other cartridges do not that make it appealing slow recoil for the size of the cartridge makes is very managable, low pressure, sub sonic, 1911, and hell it is 45 I was told when I was younger it would knock a man back 8 feet .  I do not see 45 declining anytime soon some LEOs are buying 45 and not following the FBI not a huge number.  The mil still for some reason has a wet dream for the 45 in some aspects.

Cartridges I can see really declining are .357 Sig 45 GAP (which it already has) and to an extent the 40SW.

Slow slide but it still recoils more than a 9mm. What is it, double the recoil or something generally?

45 is fun to shoot out of a glock 21, especially softer stuff like Atlanta arms.

But as far as logic goes for a defensive weapon, 45 is definitely dying. Only way a 45 makes more sense imo is if you have to use non hollow point ammo.

It does recoil less than 9mm but the recoil is a slow recoil not sharp compared to the 40/357 cartridges.

The non hollow point really is not that big of a deal with because you are just poking holes and if you are not hitting vitals or CNS neither still has an advantage.  I would not go so far to say 45 is dying maybe 40/357 but 45 has a dedicated following and even LEOs still choose 45.

The cops I see out in about usually carry a g21 or 1911. The 1911 could be chambered in 9mm and g21 with a 10mm conversion barrel but I highly doubt it.

Our local PD and SO went from Sig 220s which they carried for years to G21s and G17s. They could choose between 9mm and .45

Most(70% give or take) went to 9mm. The cops I have talked to said they qualify better with it and get more ammo on the gun and belt. Less weight is also appreciated.

I for one prefer the fullsize grip. While a shorter slide won't mean it will carry easier I'd love to have one regardless. I'd replace my 19 with it.

Frame sticks out less.  Easier to conceal.  But still gives you the added sight radius.

.45 ACP Glock with G19-length frame, 10 to 12 round magazines and G30 slide would be amazing. Only problem I see with the Glock 30 is the two-finger frame.

Anyone else think the military would be all over a gun like that, at least SF? Half the size of an HK45, half the price, and it's a Glock.

If you look at the Glock model chart on their webpage, there's a hole in the .45acp lineup where a G19 sits in the 9mm lineup. That's what's missing.
Before I bought my G21 I looked at the 30 but to me it's grip is closer to the G26.

Exactly, since 9 round mags are flush fitting is think it would be 11 rd. mag but maybe they are waiting so they can release a Glock G45 in 45 ??

One thing that I never understood was that they(Glock) have the thinner slide for the 30s and 36 but have the thicker, heavier slide for the reg 30 and 21 (and GAP lineup) I'm assuming for recoil reasons or something along those lines.

I'm switching from my dept issued 21sf to my personal 17. Not because I feel the .45 is a dying breed... Just to have a lighter firearm with more ammo that fits me better. (Issued ammo is 230gr HST and 147gr HST)
