Hopefully they go with 19s to replace the 23s. And it's not too big of a shock that .40 pistols that are being used hard will expire faster than their 9mm equivalents.

Confirming what everyone already knew. .40 is an abusive round on a gun. I'd imagine these guns have seen some serious round counts over 15 years of use between however often their department makes them qualify with their guns and however much personal range time the officers have on the guns.

The last time we priced police trade ins, Glock was going to credit us the existing guns and give us brand new ones for like $125 each. We have not had frame cracking and we have some guns that are 12 to 15 years old. Ours get shot every month. 23's. The Glock LEO warranty is pretty much forever. So I'm not buying it. If you called Glock and told them this, they'd have someone there. They'd swap out the frames, or offer a sweet deal to trade out the bad ones.
So, some of the frames may be cracked, but I'm not buying the panic or dollar estimate that they gave to fix this. Something just does not add up. Personally I think its a ploy for new guns and the public panic is part of the inducement to let them spend money. |

This Glock will practically throw pistols at police departments for next to nothing especially if it is a big department. |

I worked for the largest commercial/LE dealer in Central Ohio several years ago, and any firearm manufacturer that's interested in their reputation, would be replacing any "defective" guns in a heartbeat. In this case, I think it's more accurate to say that these pistols have reached the end of their service life, but Glock would still be stepping up to offer some kind of trade deal that wouldn't involve the department having to receive $12k from the public. Captain Tom Roby sounds more like a politician than a police officer and doesn't have a clue as to what he's talking about or the real needs of his men or the public interest. |

I have noticed in the few LE trade in G23 pistols is that they don't upgrade the old style slide lock spring. I have had to do it with everyone (3) I have bought. They also don't replace shot to shit barrels or the older barrels with the newer production ones with better chamber support. Old spring breaks and slide falls off. Just poor maintaince. Not to mention how often do they or ever replace the RSA.

But 12k to replace 30 pistols is only $400 per if they don't want to use Glock again. Dollar amount and desire to go a different route seem reasonable to me. |

After about 15 years of wear and tear A Glock in .40, 15 years, that's about right. M1911s, many lasted through two world wars, Korea and Vietnam and other brushfires. Granted many were re-arsenaled, and many were so loose and worn out they were shooting 3-4 in groups, but the things just keep going. 100 years of wars. That really says something about a gun. |

These things tend to happen when you don't replace the recoil spring on .40 Glocks. Seen several Glock 22's with cracked slides. They all had the same thing in common, 30k+ rounds down the pipe and the stock recoil spring.

Only parts ive had to replace on my Gen2 G23 are recoil springs. However it did install the upgraded ejector, ejector housing, trigger bar and trigger spring as those upgrades came out.

Anything I should be checking on my PD trade G22s? All the trades I see are 10-15 years old but it's hard to gauge the wear and abuse they've taken.
Do most PDs us +p or +p+ to train with on their 9mm guns? I know Glock suggests heavier springs and a more rigorous inspection cycle if that's all you feed. So, I'm curious about the wear on 9mm guns too. |

the only way slides are flying off is with a broken slide lock/slide lock spring. my guess is a combination of not installing the updated slide lock spring and not replacing worn RSAs

Those guys aren't exactly KY's finest  . Their descriptions of the issues sounds like they know fuckall about maitenence on anything their department owns.Sounds to me like the captain wants to throw his weight around and get something shiny while he's on watch. |

Comes out to $400 per gun. Is that a good Department price? MIL/LEO personal purchase price last time I got one (G19 Gen 3) was $425 no tax...
Wonder what else they are getting in regards to mags, parts, etc.... |

I paid 398 at GT distributors in Austin for a G19 Gen 3 blue tag with 3 magazines. This is before 8.5% tax for LE/MIL discount. It is the same price for the basic Gen 4s. You can only buy 2 LE/MIL discounted pistols from them a year.

My guess is the reason they aren't getting the pistols serviced is the boss wants to change caliber, pistol, or both. This is a good excuse to do it.
