As the title says, I'm looking at a G19 for a new carry gun. I just am having a hard time 1) making up my mind if I should go with a Gen 3 or Gen 4, and 2) why is GLOCK better than S&W M&P C in 9MM.
Thought I would come her for advice. Thanks, B62stew |

I like gen 4 a little bit better, but both my 19 are gen 3. Either will work well. The glock 19 is a much better size then a compact m&p.

I have smaller hands and the Gen 4 fits my hand much better then the Gen 3. I love my Gen 4 19 and it will be my carry gun once I get my CHL. It is a great size yet very concealable.

Everyone should own a Glock 19.
I prefer Gen 3, but the 4's are ok too. Try both. I don't care for the Gen 4 texture. I'd probably put skateboard tape on it anyway |

Also if I want to put different sights on a Gen 4 will the older aftermarket parts work? |

Bought my first 19 in 1997.. has over 17,000 rounds through it with no mods except a set of trigicon night sights.
Since then I have bought another 19 ( 2001) a Model 23, 22 and 24 both in 2005 and a 21 and 20 in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Was a bonified 1911 fan and still am since then. Enjoy.. |

Oh man... I think the correct ARFCOM answer is 'GET BOTH!!!'
I personally like the grip better on a gen 4... BUT, I would go with a RTF2 G19... IMHO the RTF2 is the perfect frame... Why is it better than the M&P 9C??? Because it's a glock!!! but in all seriousness it's just a much more proven and battle tested gun... And I've never heard someone talk about how much he loves his 9C.... It's a wannabe 19... |

Gen 4. You'll spend $100+ trying to fix the shitty trigger in the M&P.

Glock has the slimmer slide.
M&P has fantastic ergos, though, no doubt about that. If you go the Apex route, expect to spend another $150 or so. My Gen4 G19 is awesome. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Both would be solid shooters. I'm on a Glock kick right now, so, there's my answer. |

Some folks claim they like the M&P grip better but I am convinced the majority of them just want to be different .
I myself never felt the need to re-invent the wheel. I am convinced the Glock is the answer for most people who are willing to give it a fair test. Everything on it and about it works pretty darn good as is , the factory is 110% behind any problem no matter the age of the gun and everybody in the world makes holsters for it. If one insists on changing stuff like the decent factory trigger there are all sorts of drop in stuff available from dozens of aftermarket guys . It is a good solid tool that works very well and if someone is in the small percentage of folks who it doesn't work for it has excellent resale value |

gotta go GEN4 now that there out. i wont buy a glock unless they got the gen4 model. except im getting impatient with the 30s gen4 so im about just get the gen3.

I prefer Gen 3 as well, the extras with the 4s don't mean that much to me, an I agree it won't be your last.

I would get the Gen3 19 since the Gen3 models have arguably the best track record of any handgun in history. That and I find Gen4 textures to be too aggressive for IWB carry. As for the M&P9c, I have one and it's phenomenal. I could probably carry a G19 but the M&P is a little smaller. I actually prefer the ergos much more on the Smith and it's definitely softer shooting than a 9mm Glock. The G19 has a decent rail for a light though, and it carries 3 more rounds. I guess what I'm saying is, I really wish they made a mid-size M&P, more than anything. Until then, the Glock 19 Gen3 will remain the best all-around handgun in the world.

Having had both I prefer the gen4 and it is what I currently carry.

I have a gen 3 19 , and a gen 4 23
I like them both, gen 4 comes with 3 mags , when I buy another it will be a gen 4 |

My favorite handgun in my collection is a Gen 4 Glock 19. The grip texture and oversized magazine release make it my go to conceal carry pistol. Pick one up and you will not be disappointed.

I have another question.
Do any of y'all have any photos of a GLOCK 19 or any GLOCK with a crimson trace laser-grip on it? How much wider do they make the grips? does it make the gun uncomfortable to hold? How do the laser grips work with the new Gen 4? |
|
[#30]
My first Glock was a gen 3 Glock 19. It is one of my favorite pistols to shoot. I also have a gen 3 Glock 30 (not S or SF). Both 19 and 30 is basically the same size. If I had to choose between both for SD, I would go with the Glock 30 because of the larger caliber. Not to start a debate, just a personal preference.

It is hard to argue with making that your first choice when it comes to the beloved combat Tupperware.Great all around platformand ergonomics. Yes the g30 is roughly the same size but it is thicker. I have medium size hands so the 30 is at the outer limits for me. You will not be displeased with the 19 if a good multi purposehandgun is what you're after. My next purchase will be a gen 4 19!

I have the saddle style CT on the rear of a G26 and will be glad to take a pic when I get back home this evening if someone doesn't post one before then. |

There are two models: LG-417 and LG-617 and they are making new ones with an ON/OFF switch for Gen 3 models. |

The G19 may be the perfect hand gun - it's compact enough to carry, yet large enough to shoot comfortably.
I have smaller hands and the Gen 4 G19 fits it like a glove.

Local LGS has a used Gen 4 GLOCK 19 for $529 plus tax. Is that a good deal as far as the Gen 4 GLOCKs go?

If it is in really nice condition, includes three 15 round mags, with a low round count then it's a good deal.
