Does anyone have a recommendation for a good shop to do the barrel work?

I had a local gunsmith that is known for doing good work cut and crown my barrel on my SLR 106UR. I would first look  around in your area for a gunsmith that can do that  kind of simple  work, before sending it out

Ok, I will look around. I was just thinking of sending it out to a group known to be really good at this since I've heard of some of these AK jobs going wrong. Looking to get it SBR'd and hang a DeadAir Wolverine off the end.

If all you need is a chop & crown send it to Morgan (easttxhunter) @ class3machining, here's his thread in the EE http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_143/1029861_Barrel_Threading_sale__50__PTR_91__Tavors__Augs__Scar__Sig_MPX__Beretta_21A_Threading__FAL__PAPM92.html

I have my SLR107UR on its way back from these guys.  This was my first experience with them and pending the rifles' arrival for inspection, I'd fully recommend them.  They had excellent communication, fair pricing and good turn around time.  Others have recommended them, so I thought I'd give them a try...

I second this. They did an awesome job installing an under folder on my M92 Pap, and as soon as my stamp comes in for my Draco it's going there as well.

I just received my SLR-107UR just arrived and I'm very pleased with the work they did.  Two thumbs up!  They cut the barrel, did the gas work and engraved my Trust info on the rifle.  Here are a few pictures:

I'm gonna go out on a limb here but, I had great success shortening my 104UR myself. After getting my stamp, I used a kit by Manson precision reamers. I t came out great. Price was reasonable.

What did they end up charging because my 107UR needs the same thing done.

I had a local guy cut and crown my 107cr.  Shoots great and cost me like $60.  Nothing else needed on the CR.

It was a little over $200 + shipping...  I forgot they also pulled the gas block/ front sight to drill out the donut/plug Arsenal puts in there.  If I remember correctly, most of the 107's needed the donut removed/drilled out, whereas the 104's don't.  I'm going to do the barrel cut and finish on my 104 once it is approved.

Thank you. Gives me a good idea of what my first SBR adventure will cost.

I had Adco do mine, worked out great. I think with the CR there is just the barrel cut, no restrictor removal to deal with.

+1 for Manson precision reamers. I've done 3 AKs,  2 104URs and a 107UR, 2 GSG5s, a GSG MP40, and a 44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawk. I've also recrowned a couple of hunting rifles for friends and a BLR-22. I bought the facing tool and the crowning tool with a couple of different size arbors. Manson tooling is very affordable and works as advertised. If you have a good hacksaw, a cordless drill and some cutting oil, you can do a professional job in a a short amount of time.

You actually paid someone to cut and crown a barrel on that? I'm sorry.

I bought a factory SBR 104UR and while that stamp was pending I bought a non SBR version. I ended up SBRing that one too. I litterally watched a YouTube video on cutting and crowning it and ended up using a hacksaw and a brass screw with polishing compound to cut and crown jt. the one that I used a hack saw on has not keyholed once at any distance. the factory SBR keyholes like a bitch. arsenal basically said fuck you when I asked about them correcting the problem on the factory one.

Done 2 slr104s with a hacksaw, flat file, brass screws and grinding paste. They both shoot fine.

What you may not know, in your haste, is the SLR107UR has a ristrictor in the gas block that has to be removed/drilled out.  Unfortunately, I did not have a press to remove the gas block at the time.  The SLR104UR doesn't have the ristrictor, so it is much easier to where nearly anyone could do the work...  Congratulations on your two 104UR's...

I also did my own when I did my 105 (107CR, but in 5.45). Hack saw and crowning tool. Tools are relatively cheap, and I've used that crowning tool a lot since I bought it. More than paid for itself.

potato pic:

I originally left some meat on it and threaded for a suppressor, but have since cut it that off, no suppressor $ in my near future.
