Currently my M92 pap has a folding sig brace from cnc warrior, and a hogue grip.  As much as I wanted to keep it simple, I think I'd shoot better using a red dot.  I've seen the storm works types of mounts where you drill through the cover but it seems like a midwest rail would be a much more solid mount.  I'm not an M92 expert, so I'm hoping to hear from people who have tried something and have feed back on the results.

I appreciate any information, thanks.

Well the stormwerkz rail that installs on the top cover can either be a hit or miss. My top cover has play on it when closed so I doubt it could hold zero. Another way would be the TWS dogleg rail for the M92/85 guns, seems like a sturdy mounting system unlike a regular AK dogleg. Another is an ultimak, and MI rails. Haven't tried any of those so YMMV.

The Manticore Renagade handguard with optic mount is good. Simple and light weight.

I drilled and tapped my dust cover with a template and put a rail section on. It is rock solid.

Figured I'd add some pics of the Manticore set-up........................

I like the MidWest Industries MLOK mount. I just wish they offered it in a green anodized version. It IS lower 1/3 cowitness though.

Oh, and a Trijicon MRO specific option would be nice!

I think using a top cover option depends on the rifle.  Mine for example fits extremely tight so I went ahead and mounted a magpul rail section for less than $15.  Holds zero and is accurate.  It returns to zero if the top cover is opened/closed.  YMMV.

Honest question, why don't you buy am MWI optic topcover?

Personally I hate Ultimaks and avoid at all costs, but that's your choice

My M92 top cover has play when open, but when it's shut it's tight. The dot has always returned to zero and is spot on, it shoots around 2MOA at 75yd. Using a PA MD06 on the Stormwerkz rail.

Has anyone put an optics rail on the side and used a Russian optic?

That seems like a lot of wasted rail space.

There is a Surefire Mini-Scout in this rifles near future.  And when paperwork comes back to SBR it, it will get a MAGPUL VG.

I love my Texas Weapon Systems dog-leg replacement top cover! Full length rail and absolutely no movement with red dot attached. I originally had a red dot mounted on my Midwest M-Lok handguard  but found it to me mounted too far forward for me.

I have a TWS cover on my Mini Draco and it always returns to zero. It has an adjustable tab on the side so you can tighten it up as many hosts are not the same dimensionally.  I am running a rather large Aimpoint M3 and it performs flawlessly set up like this.

I like how mine works. It's on a Midwest Industries Rail:

OP, Perhaps add a poll with some of the suggestions given?

I just joined the M92 club and am leaning toward an Ultimak.

I went with MI, I have found it to be very sturdy.

I ended up picking up an MI rail.  I haven't put a red dot on it yet,  but when I do it'll be a bushnell trs25.

I have the MI rail on mine and it is very solid.  I personally think the only two that would be capable of rezero is the MI rail and the Ultimak.  The only issue with the Ultimak may be the heat generated by sustained firing transferring directly to the optic.  With the MI rail the gas tube and the rail do not touch.  The Ultimak essentially replaces the gas tube.

Adding my vote for the Manticore Renegade, awesome set-up.

I'm confused how the Manticore works?  Is the top portion where the optic mounts aluminum, and does it mount to the gas tube?  Can you remove the gas tube with this setup?  Is there a picatinny piece you can bolt to the top?

The top is aluminum and it attaches to the gas tube with a couple of rings.  You can remove it and there is a picatinny piece you can bolt to the top but it will not co-witness with any other red dot sights.

This video explains pretty well how to install.

You know Dragynn, I feel our rifles were separated at birth. Only to both end up living in Texas!

Having used the Stormworkz rail mod, TWS Dogleg, and Manticore Renegade - I would heartily recommend the TWS followed by the Renegade. Only reason I would rank the TWS over the Renegade is the ability to mount the red dot closer to me. The Stormwerkz method works well, but is too high, is too dependent on factory top cover stability, and limited adjustment range.

Check out the Manticore Arms forearm with their topcover mount.  Great system.  Running mine with the T1 topcover and a Primary Arms micro.

Absolute exact setup I'm looking at. Are you happy with the sight setup? How does it point?

Nice pics BTW.
