Hello all,
Just purchased my Lancaster Tantal and love it (was actually very surprised by its accuracy). I live in the Peoplez Republik of Kalifornia where we can not have the folding stock and rather than keep the dysfunctional folding stock, I am fitting it with a full wood stock and replacing the flash hider with an AK74 one (US made)

However I can not find any furniture sets for the Tantal and while AK stocks, pistol grips, and lower handguards will fit, I can not find a replacement upper handguard.

Does anyone know where I can find upper handguard?

There isn't another upper handguard made, save for some fairly rare (and expensive) Polish parts, that will replace the current one.  The Tantal's upper handguard is the only furniture part that does not interchange with other AK74/AKM pieces.

ironwood designs makes a complete wood stock set for your tantal.  top handguard and all.  the laminated set would look awesome.

Didn't realize they made tantal stuff.  Sweet.

I checked out their sight but don't see anything for the Tantal

Here's a pic of an unfinished Tantal set from Ironwood. With any luck, I should be fitting the wood to the completed rifle in a couple of weeks, and start the stain and finishing process.

Pretty looking wood ...Are there any photos floating around of how that style of wood furniture looks on a Tantal?

I just replaced the folding stock and lower handguard on my Tantal. I'll be dying the upper black soon.

Don't see anything on his site either.

I just emailed him for the scoop.

PooFire, where did you find the lower handguard for yours at? I've been looking for the style for a while now, and have had no luck.

any standard stamped-receiver lower handguard will fit.  it's the upper that's different.

Yes I know any lower will fit, but I was just having trouble finding that style. But found one on gunbroker last night so I went ahead and bought that along with a synthetic stock, so my Tantal will be looking exactly like his here pretty soon.

Anyone try and mount a ACE folding stock on theres yet? I really to not like the standard Tantal folding stock.

tantal = AKM as far as buttstock interchangability goes.

Nice picture.

Does anyone know where to get a bakelite pistol grip for the tantal?  I'm assuming they're polish made and taken from a kit.  I have an Interarms Tantal, and I don't know how many American parts are already on it.  The rifle is exactly as I've gotten it from Atlantic Firearms last spring.  If I wanted to put the bakelite pistol grip on, what would I have to replace with an American part?

There were a few on GB a few days ago. Here's one:

Just keep in mind your 922r count. Swapping that US made grip for the Polish will mean that you have to add another approved US part somewhere else.

I plan on ordering the Tantal furniture once Ironwood opens their ordering back up again, but I essentially did what you want to do and added an East German zig-zag brake and plum furniture (for now) to one of my other Tantals:

Did I miss the answer as to how that upper handguard was dyed? It turned out very well.

.

Rit dye and hot water.  Many plastics take Rit dye quite well and are fairly colorfast.  Anodized aluminum does also, but it's a bit more involved process.

I paid about $100 for my Polish handguard and grip set in black a couple years ago.  If I had it to do over again, I'd have just bought US made lower HG and pistol grip, and dyed the upper handguard myself.
