Same as the differences between the Dragunov rifles and the PSL. PSL and VEPR are oversized AKs, with the VEPR getting a pretty long lead on its Romanian cousin in quality. For the in depth stuff, go here:

Oh, and for the short of it, nothing is cross compatible. Nothing.
Yeah completely different animals. The SVD resembles the AK series in appearance only. Different gas system etc.etc. But just like the legacy AK series way awesome weapons.
Are there any detailed pictures of an SVD or a Tiger taken apart to show the internals and individual components out there? Everyone says they are so different from each other, but I kind of get the feeling most are just repeating what someone else said (besides the gas systems being different). What kind of bolt lockup does the tiger have as oposed to the PSL?
They are completely different. I've owned a 5 or 6 AKs, and 2 SVD's. There is nothing similar about them when it comes to function.
SVD and PSL both have a rotating bolt. The PSL has two locking lugs, the SVD has three lugs.
SVD uses a short stroke gas piston, very similar to the SKS. The PSL and AK use a long stroke piston. Two very different setups.
FCG's are VERY different. The SVD trigger is more complicated that an AK.
Bolt carriers are vaguely similar, but not cross compatible.
Top cover on an SVD attaches similar to an SKS. Recoil spring and guide rod for it are attached to the top cover. It's not a separate part like on an AK or PSL.
Those are all the differences I can think of that you can't really see by just looking at a picture of the rifles side by side.
