What questions should I ask the dealer to determine what it is and what kind of condition it is in?

It has a quad rail, folding stock and different muzzlebrake on it. Pictures of it look nice.

I was going to ask the following:

Canted front sight?
Markings on trigger?
Peening on the back of the carrier?

What else should I ask about it over the phone?

Seems like a great deal if it is in half decent shape.

Thats a tough one. I myself would need to see it in person and I know that you have said that you cannot. Did they say why they are selling it so cheap? The whole "too good to be true" comes to mind on this deal. New WASR's are selling for two bills higher than what they are asking and if the guy really needed the cash that bad he would have hit a pawn shop. I see this deal as a red flag.

Called the dealer. Front sight badly canted, peening on the bolt and other "issues."

He called it a "bad buy" on their part.

It was a Cabelas.

Going to pass on it.

I probably still would have done it, but would have had to see it in person. Peening on the tail of the carrier? No big deal (depending on severity). Canted front sight? No big deal. Would have to see the other issues, but unless the previous owner did something to it they're probably not big issues. Of course, I'm just speculating since I haven't seen it.
