500.00-650.00? For a all Romanian Made AK? Your Price is in the range of what You can buy a current AK Platform Assembled from inferior Bulgarian Parts Kits on a USA Made Receiver. From what I have read These are one of the better and more desirable made AK 74 Platforms. As it is a true Made in Romania AK not a Parts Kit assembled here on a US Made Reciever. You can not and probably will not ever be able to get ahold of one of these again. Unless You Buy one from Someone who is selling one. If You are correct on Your Pricing I will Hold on to it until the next Ban and then Maybe sell it. I didnt sell it this time around so I may not ever sell it.

The Romanian sar2 are great shooters and built well on the original foreign receiver.  I miss mine but his price is spot on I think 2 recently sold in the $500-525 range. I agree they are undervalued and great shooters unique with their 45 degree gas block. Also ibtl you should have asked in the price check thread in general ak discussion

. Lol.     Are you asking a question, or giving us the hard sell?       An object is worth what somebody will pay for it.

$550 if you got very lucky.

No Hard Sell as I do not need to sell it for any reason at all! It's been in My Safe since 1999 And it can sit there forever as far as I am concerned. I have Someone that is wanting to trade Me for it and wanted a Value thats all. I have 10 East German Mags for it that sell for 50.00-60.00 a Piece, and 2K Rounds of Russian Made 5.45x39 ammo from 1999 as well. so even at Yall's low quate of 550.00 plus 500.00 worth of Mags and 2K rounds of ammo along with a bunch of Acessories it should have a Complete Package Value around 1200-1300.00

I guess 550.00 isn't terrible since I bought it in 1999 for 250.00 Out the Door!

$550 maybe $600.  Higher if it had the front sight base replaced with a correct version.   All the EG AK74 mags that have sold in the EE recently have been selling in the $30 (used) to $43 (new in wrap) range.

Agree, the stock rifle(not-debanned) is $5-600, EG bakelite mags are ~$30-35ea.

Does anyone remember the good old days of AK-47.net? There used to be this really helpful member there that went by the name Linx310. He created a really helpful site - http://www.novarata.net/Linx310/model.shtml that discussed all the Romanian import models and other helpful stuff. Below is what he has to say about the SAR-2. Please note the SAR-2 was an "AWB era" import and the AWB was 1994 - 2004. OP, did you mean you purchased this in 2001 from AIM Surplus for about $280.00?

I would say your SAR-2 would probably sell for about $500.00. Pros: It's a Romanian factory built AK with a Romanian chrome lined barrel. Cons: Lack of a threaded FSB and bayonet lug.

Quote from Linx310's website:

A SAR-2 is a P.D.B (Produced During assualt weapons Ban) Romanian semi-automatic clone of the AK-74. This Rifle has a pistol grip and can accept Hi-capacity Ak-74 bakelight magazines, which are extremely cheap and plentiful. The end of the barrel has no threads. The rifle uses the AK-74's 5.45*39 cartridge. The fit and finish of this rifle is average, but slightly better then the SAR-1 mainly because of the mismatched wood and some odd metal finishing marks. Most Sar-2s have some form of trigger slap, which can be easily fixed by following the Trigger Slap fix tutorial. Another problem that may be encountered is canted sights. There are 5 US parts and 10 imported parts. This rifle is a great second or third AK. The advantages of this rifle are its low recoil, reliability, and cheap mags. The glaring disadvantage of this rifle is the supply of 5.45*39 in the US because it is not domestically manufactured, and some replacement parts are less common. They are now NO LONGER imported, and have been replaced by a sister gun in the WASR series.

Excuse my ignorance, but are there any difference between one built in the early 90's vs ones built in the early 2000's?

Were there SARs being imported in 1991?

I thought the ROMAK-2s and a couple of other variants of 5.45 rifles came in around 1998-1999, with a lot of good '74' factory features.  Then the SARs came around 2001, still with a Romanian factory receiver/barrel, but deleting some desirable features like the correct AK-74 bolt carrier?

That's not correct ... MkII ,CUR2 and Romak-2 are not matching numbers; however they all had the upturned bolt handle. The 99' and some 00' imported Sar-2 had all matching numbers and the upturned bolt handle. They are the most desirable variant for AIMS AK-74 conversion with 22mm FSB.

That's a trick question Like others have said SAR's began around 1999- 2000,(there's no way OP could own one in early 90's) I am not familiar with with any 74's imported in early 90's (90-91-92-93) Heck we were still into our Clayco's Slr93-95's & Norinco's then.

I have SAR-1 /1999

& SAR-2 /2000

I was getting my SAR-2's during the ban for $179 OTD.  Shortly afterwards mags were $2 each. Plum were $10, brown were $15.

The good old days.

I would pay $500 for one of the early ones like that as they are flawless once you fix the FSB cant.

I bought my ROMAK 1 in 97 and my SAR 2 in 99.  My local FFL dealer ordered them for me.  My ROMAK 1 has been perfect since day 1 and is a great shooter.  I was lucky enough to buy a Romanian FSB with 22mm threads and had my local GS replace the old FSB and fix the CANT on my SAR 2.  But didn't have the funds for the brake until supply was dried up. A guy from FALFILES, "MOSES", made a 22mm copy for me and it works great. Really hadn't done much with it till a couple weeks ago and took it out to zero it. Had to fix trigger slap too.  I fixed that. It shoots great.  This forum got me interested again and has great info.

I bought my SAR-2 partially converted with 22mm FSB and AKUSA 22mm muzzle brake, along with seven AIMS-74 magazines for right at $550.00 shipped several years ago. I put a dong lower handguard on it and a Romanian push-button folding stock, and it looks like a pretty good clone of the Romanian rifles I saw in Afghanistan.

I've seen rifles just like mine listed in the EE and elsewhere for around $1300 for just the rifle, but I consider that price highly optimistic.
