Was at the local gun show here in Phoenix today. WASR 10's were going for $599, the Century 'Presentation' version was $899. Looked like a typical WASR, finish was a bit nicer. Jeez, when I bought mine for $450 a few years back I thought that was high...

Went to the local gun show here in PA. a couple weeks ago and the WASR's were going for the same price here. Around $600 bucks. I do believe the day's of the $400 dollar AK are over.
Supply and demand and all ........................... I'm just glad I bought mine when I did......................

I can attest to this as well. The past two shows I've attended this year in Texas (Jan and March), all the WASR's were going for minimum $550. I got mine a few months back for $500 and thought that was high, but I really wanted to buy one in person to insure it was a keeper :D

Wasr's are 530-600 here. Demand is crazy

Well locally the price of WASR10s run from $449-$550. I bought one last month at Dunham's for $449. Century Arms can't keep any AKs in stock because the demand is so high. Crazy! Remember when there was no demand on the WASR10s?

Yep, demand is high. I think it's the pre-election jitters just like 2008.

Saw one at a gun show for $600 but i picked mine up for $400 last summer

Saw some around $400 on GunBroker but after the transfer fee and shipping, would be closer to $450-$460.

Yeah, I'm breathing a sigh of relief.

I bought my WASR-10 here in Vegas in 2010 for 409. After taxes, background, Fees, etc...459 OTD.

Yeah I'm selling mine on the local gun trader at about those prices.  I have other AK's and don't even shoot the WASR. It wobbles mags and aint pretty. Taking the money and going to buy a CMP Garand for the same price.

Seen them anywhere from $550 to $700

Same show I saw a MAK90 for $500, should have bought it

I must have got mine just in time. I paid $350 out the door about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago. A friend bought one earlier this year for right at $500. Its almost more worth it to buy one of the nicer brand Ak"s now.

Yea, I was kicking myself for not buying one at $350 around that same time.  The price kinda hovered around $380-$400 for a while and then everyone was out of stock for a while and then they came back at these crazy prices which is why I jumped on mine at $405.  If I hadn't found that deal I would have ended up buying a more expensive one just to have an AK.  I am glad I bought it cause its now one of my favorite rifles.  Does anyone know about the ATI (GSG?) AK47s?  I have seen a few decent prices on those and have been tempted to pick one up....

I see them for 400 at best.. best and for 599 at most!! also the m10s I got were 489 shipped and centerfire has them for 499 with 4 tapco mags rifle bag sling cleaning kit and some other junk for 499

I picked mine up for 599, about 640 with tax otd.    This is my 3rd wasr, the first one I got in 2008 for 425 otd...  It's a lot to pay for a wasr but at least I got a good one.

Hell, I can remember buying SAR-1s for $289 about ten years back.   I say this just to put things in perspective.   Of course, back then it seemed like ALL of the SAR-1s had crooked front sight posts.   SOP was to buy one and then drive out the two pins, take a lead mallet and pound the sucker around until it was straight and then redrill and replace front sight post pins.  I bet there is more than one board member who remembers doing this.

It DOES seem to me that the build quality on the newer Romanian WASRs is a bit better - even though the prices are higher than ever before.  I am pretty burned out on buying guns these days but if I WERE going to buy an AK-type 7.62 x 39 rifle, I would look at the newer Saigas that already have the front end in the proper configuration.   Centerfire was selling them awhile back.   With a little conversion of the fire control group to American parts and an American-made buttstock and pistol grip, seems to me that these would be dandy rifles with excellent barrels for about the price of the Romanian rifles now.

I don't want to put the tinfoil on BUT it does seem that many people anticipate four more years of Barry Soetoro and that he will really come after gun ownership in some major way, hence the buying frenzy.

Boy, if somebody could get their hands on some East German AK-74 mags right now for resale, they could make a small fortune.  I see people asking about them every week on gun boards.

Just got a new WASR for $449.  Has black finish, everything is straight and the mag well is nice and tight.  No wobble.   Shoots great.  Id say the quality has come up considerably.    Im looking for another just like it.   I have not had good experiences with Saigas.  This WASR definitly beats my last Saiga in quality.

I just took the dive and picked up a WASR-10 underfolder from FleetFarm for $479 with two mags.

Checkout guy let me pick the one with the least amount of magazine woble but none of them had canted sights or gas tubes.

Mine has the tapco trigger already installed. Came with bayonet and sling.

Underfolder was only $20 more than the fixed stock.

The action might need some attention as its stiff, not like the SAR my buddy has, but that has over 1200 rds through it already.

Up until the past 2 weeks, Dunhams regularly had them in their weekly flyer for $450.00. Local funshows had them for $550.00. Local Gander Mtn had no probs moving theirs for $600.00

I checked their site last night, they have them for $450 again.

Just noting tho, I think these are the models with a naked muzzle and shaved bayolug ears.

Hmm. They didn't have them in the softcopy weekly sale flyer again this week. Maybe its a regional thing?

Anyway, yeah - the ones they used to have for sale here were the versions with one hi-cap mag, no bayo lugs, tack-welded muzzle nuts. Back in the day $450.00 would have snagged a loaded WASR hi-cap, with 2-mags, slant-brake, bayo, and mag-pouch included example.

Somebody may have already posted this, but i noticed that there are no more "WASR10/63s," now they're marketed as "WASR10s." Is the newer gen any better? I bought my 10/63 in 2010 for $400

Some that are marketed as WASR10 in the web
have engraved WASR 10/63 in the receiver when you get it.

I agree with you.   I'm not planning on buying any ak or other firearms at present, but if I were going to buy an ak-type rifle, I would opt for the Saiga with the CORRECT front end for about $479.00, buy a few American parts from Dinzag, some American furniture and have an excellent rifle for about the same cost as you mention.

In terms of price, the Hungarian, Bulgarian, Polish and Saigas and some others are far better rifles.

It is my belief that many of the new panic buyers simply don't know about the relative quality differences among the different  types.

I am sure some Romanian WASR owners will fire away at me telling me how great their WASRs are.   That's great.   I own a WASR too, but I damn sure did NOT pay current prices for it.

I tend to believe that the millions of WASR owners
don't waste their time coming to this forum.
I also believe that of those few who may visit the forum
would do it just to check for deals/sales/specials announcements,
launching of any new products and vendor news only.
Not to waste time trying to convince others about
which rifle is the best.

I'm assuming that most of them are just happy to have them
and take them to the range to shoot for fun.

That's my opinion.....but I could be wrong.

Local gun store down here has a new WASR10/63 for $699 + tax and a WASR10 underfolder for $599 + tax

I called ahead of time to ask if the had any 10/63 and they said no, only one 10 left. I went ahead and stopped in to look at the 10 thinking it could be a decent find, well, the receiver is actually a 10/63, g2 trigger, sights look straight but still $699 + tax? SHIT!

You can wait or buy. My friend owns a gun store and non of the distributors that he deals with (6) have any WASRs in stock. They haven't had any in a couple months plus when he called and asked they said that Century is raising the prices with the next shipment.

I think those cheap sub $500 days are gone. Well....except for the lucky bastards that have a Fleet & Farm around them!

Yeah, good point. If I didn't have to buy a mower this weekend, I probably would have bought it. Although I'm thinking about selling my Glock 19 I just got to support an AK purchase. I can always get another Glock down the road.

It's mind-blowing to me that some places will charge $550 for a WASR, and then sell the (IMHO, vastly superior) M10 for $600.

One of these days, I'm going to invest in the equipment to properly build AKs myself...
