So I have a Mak 90 that has been sitting around for a while and I have decided its time to modify it. I want to do the following mods. Side folding ar style stock, New muzzle brake, quad rail ( Already have the MI on it) and put a red dot on it.

The muzzle has been previously threaded but the threads are thin. I am hoping whatever brake I use I can time it and get it to stay on. Any suggestions on muzzle devices? How about side folding ar style stocks?

Let's start with the stock; it depends on if your receiver is slant cut or not.

If it isn't you options for AR type folders.

Bonesteel Mak 90 M4 stock folder:

The muzzle is most likely not threaded, they've just been turned down, but can be re threaded to 1/2x28, which gives you plenty of options.

Manticore Night Brake is a popular choice around here and can be had in 1/2x28 and 14x1LH

I wouldn't bother with a quad rail unless you really like the look; Manticore Arms makes the ALFA rail handguards in Keymod with a railed gas tube handguard so you can mount an optic.
The lower handguard will require some fitting, I had to dremel mine out a bit in the area that sits under the trunnion.

That is preference, as you can shoot with it folded to either side, and the only reason I can think of to have it fold right would be if you had a side rail with an optic mounted.

I prefer the right side folding because it balances better against your body when slung, but that is also preference; I do have a left side triangle folder AK, but it lacks a side rail optic mount.

It's not as easy to rack the charging handle with the stock folded right however, and you can't operate the safety.

Was yours welded up and ground down?

I had one with part of the spring still shaking around inside.

Just knock out the muzzle side pin, re-drill the hole in the face of the fsb, insert your spring, keeper, and replace the pin.

I don't think it was welded but I'll check.

With the spring and pin installed, what keeps it from just falling out?

The keeper has a flat ground out off it that is captured by the FSB pin as it is held in its channel.

Looks like this

Yes, I've used them on 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 AKs, they work well for me, no loss of zero. I have the Gen 2, and am looking to get a Gen 3.

My de banned Polytech Type 56-S with one:

I've ordered all of mine through Brownells, and I think I've seen them around the same price everywhere.

What modifications did you do to the Magpul (Zhokov) stock to get it to fit. Magpul says it wont work on Chinese AK's ??

It was actually really simple. Check out the pic. The rear tang on the ak needed ground down ever so slightly. After that I opened up the hole towards the rear just a bit. Nice and tight fit of the stock to the receiver.

Why did you modify the rifle instead of the stock?
