Good morning gentlemen. First time posting in this message board. Well yesterday I took ownership of my very first AK-47 rifle. This was offered to me as trade for a few Mosins I had for sale locally. What really grabbed my attention about this particular rifle was the fact it was chambered in 223/5.56. I'm so new to the AKs, I didn't know they were available in the 5.56 caliber, which is a bonus for me because I have plenty of 5.56 saved up and I wouldn't have to start stock piling 7.62. Also the rifles seemed to be in nice shape, so I accepted the trade.
Well I was up pretty late last night googling and discovered apparently Polytech AKs is the standard by which all other Aks are judged. Up until yesterday I had never heard of Polytech, so that discovery was a nice surprise. So far I haven't been able to find much information on Polytech's 5.56 variant. Were they popular back in the day before the importation ban? Is this variant as collectible as the 7.62 versions? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also posted this over on the gunboards site. Thanks for looking!!!

I used to have this exact same rifle. Sold it. Don't ever get rid of those mags cause finding them is extremely difficult. Norinco .223 mags will not work in these polytech. Only
Polytech specific mags.

Could be the original box. I don't think Polytech or Kengs I should say was 100% on point with correct box configurations during export. I have seen original polytechs tha had mix matched serials on the original box. Serials crossed out with marker and rewritten with correct serials, etc.
I want to say that box may be original and once
It got the Kengs there was no need for specific detail.
These were $299 brand new and were made to shoot and not sit in a safe. Hense why unfired ones are becoming very rare and reach a premium. I say go shoot the damn thing and enjoy! Great rifle.

Wow! Hard to believe these were less than $300 new. Since I've posted these pictures I've had a few trade/purchase offers. Turning them down for now, but out of curiosity what would the fair market value be on this rifle in its current condition? Up until a few weeks ago I had no idea what a Polytech was and now I've spent a great deal of my spare time researching. Incredibly excited about these and I think I want another one! A legend series perhaps

I hear ya also new to the AK world and now I am addicted especially after shooting mine.As for price just my opinion don't think you would have trouble getting somewhere between $1500-$2000 on GB

In the box is def a value boost. Would we consider this an AR47?
